Family Resort Stubai - Hotel Atzinger

We’ve just returned from our winter break and would gladly come back. The owners were wonderfully welcoming, and the apartment, breakfast, and wellness area were all excellent. For skiing, the hotel shuttle goes directly to Schlick 2000, while the ski bus to the glacier stops 200 m from the hotel. The location worked perfectly for us.

We stayed in apartment 203, the two-bedroom one, with our one-year-old son. The view was stunning, and he had a great time in the pool and the kids’ play area.

The breakfasts were the highlight. There was a huge range of bread, fruit, yogurt, cereal, cheese, ham, salami, marmalades, drinks, and tea, plus boiled, fried, and scrambled eggs, grilled sausages, bacon, homemade butter, and even foie gras. They kept replenishing everything, and we could make as many sandwiches as we wanted for the day in a special bag. The wine list was good and reasonably priced too. Our room was spacious and clean, with a big comfortable bed. The place is quiet, away from the main road and near the forest, and the cable car is a 20-minute walk. WiFi was fast and reliable everywhere. The spa had comfortable sunbeds, though we couldn’t find the advertised Jacuzzi. There was no soap or other bathroom supplies, so bring your own. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and spoke some English, German, and Italian. They clearly tried hard to make communication pleasant. We ate dinner there twice. The meat fondue was fine, and the dips were great. The Mediterranean buffet had some tasty dishes, like the game goulash, but other food was disappointing: the chicken was too dry and the vanilla pudding tasted like rotten eggs. The cappuccino at breakfast was mediocre, and the orange machine juice had a horrible powdery, chemical taste, though the apple juice was okay. Service was slow too. After 15 minutes, having finished the salad and first course, I had to ask for our unfinished wine bottle from the day before. Drinks should have arrived before we started eating. Technically, in a four-star hotel, they’re meant to offer a tasting sip when opening wine, but that didn’t matter much to me. And there was a fly bothering us at both dinners, landing on my food and drinks. Its dead colleague was on the window. Eww. Even with those annoyances, we had a good experience for the money. The warm, likeable staff made us feel welcome and at home.

The spa is a real plus, and the property is nicely looked after and family-friendly. Our room was good, though only partly refurbished.
