VAYA Galtür Paznaun

The hotel has excellent facilities, with renovated rooms in VAYA's familiar wood style and a beautiful stainless steel pool. We also enjoyed the three saunas and the steam bath. Mario's team is friendly and makes for a carefree stay. Right in central Galtür, it's a handy starting point for activities in the Paznaun-valley. Guided hikes from the tourist office leave from the central square just in front, and shuttle buses included with the guest card run throughout the valley.

A perfect place to spend a holiday any time of year and get close to nature. Reception staff were professional and friendly, and the food and drinks were good. Ask for her Wein Cart, it's amazing. Thank you, Team Vaya!

The food, wellness, and rooms were amazing. My one complaint is the mattresses.

We were there for over a week, and the comfort and food quality matched what you'd expect from a hotel of this class in Austria. Staff from Croatia and Bosnia were friendly, though English helps, since most didn't understand German alone. There are several Finnish saunas, including one huge one, which felt like a lot, plus a steam room. The pool is small, though, too short for more than a couple of strokes in one direction, and there was no yoga or fitness room to stretch in after skiing. The fitness and wellness space didn't feel well balanced. Since it's a chain rather than an owner-run hotel, special requests were hard to get across and staff didn't seem keen to help. I had to ask several times before I got the complimentary bathrobe, because our room had been given one too few. My request to borrow a yoga mat or rug was turned down. The cleaning staff were friendly and thorough, but didn't understand when I asked them not to run the dishwasher for one dirty cup and two spoons. They ran it even after I'd washed everything by hand, which seemed wasteful. I also saw no sign of rubbish being sorted for recycling. The whole hotel was heated extremely warmly, about 21 degrees by feel, so anything warmer than a T-shirt made me sweat while getting ready to ski. The boss just advised opening the windows at night. I eventually worked out how to adjust the radiator temperature myself by lifting the wood panels under the windows and finding the wheel. The blonde lady at reception had said a janitor would come to lower the heat in our suite, but nobody followed up, so I had to ask again the next day and ended up fixing it myself, which was quite easy. Letting precious heat out through open windows because of the excessive heating didn't make me feel good about the already high carbon footprint of a holiday.
