Sporthotel am Ötscher

The cost is far too high for what you get, and I really wouldn’t recommend paying it. You can find much better hotels in the area for less. When I arrived, I was immediately disappointed. The hotel is huge, so even getting from the room to the cafeteria takes several minutes. The food was gross: tough meat, grilled potatoes that were either too hard or too soft, and drinks worse than tap water. The rooms are tiny and old, the bathrooms too cramped for two people at the sink, and everything smells bad because there’s no ventilation. Wi-Fi costs 10€, and even after paying, there’s no guarantee you can connect. I’m from Czechia and don’t speak much German, so I expected English text, but everything was only in German and HUNGARISH.

I booked an apartment advertised with a double bed, but got two separate singles and was told to “just put them together.” They said none of their apartments actually had the double bed shown in the listing. The booking photos seemed cropped to mislead people. They moved me to a small room with a double bed, then refused to acknowledge any difference in price. At the 10€ breakfast, eggs were the only warm food. I’ll leave this review up until the apartments are advertised honestly online.

The staff were friendly, but that couldn’t make up for the rest. The hotel is run down, and the beds are too short for tall people. The food was the worst I’ve been served in years: frozen products, badly prepared, half frozen and half burned. Even the potatoes tasted like cucumbers.

I won’t be coming back. The staff deserve five stars, they were lovely and very helpful, but the place itself is really old. From my professional background, I quickly formed some conclusions about the management. It isn’t just the building that’s run down; the people making decisions have let it deteriorate and expect employees to work in those conditions. The staff do their best, but can’t deliver satisfactory results. That’s the real problem here.
