Gasthof Kirchenwirt

Feels like family.

Just to be clear, this is a guesthouse rather than a hotel. It's an excellent guesthouse, though, with a great location, a very good kitchen, and kind, helpful staff. The rooms are clean and a good size. The beds in our room were too soft for us, which was the only downside. We'd gladly come back.

We came with a large group, and unfortunately the place doesn't make sense for the price. It costs like ski accommodation, but the slopes are far away. The lady in charge behaved in a way that's hard to describe, and the food was forgettable. Room 103 practically vibrated from the air conditioner mounted on the house wall, or possibly the kitchen ventilation. Even earplugs didn't make it bearable. We only stayed because of the company. The lady in charge said nobody had told her about it beforehand, but this isn't a five-star hotel, either. The rest of the team listened to the laundry noise... The rooms' cleanliness on arrival made that clear. The cupboards were full of rubbish.

Both of our rooms had issues, though not the same ones, and neither was very satisfactory. The building has good facilities and sits in a beautiful spot, but the Hungarian staff seemed indifferent, and kindness was hard to find. When I reported that the radiator control in our room was broken, the cleaner told me, “I can’t fix it.” The manager’s response was, “It heats with a wheel, right?”
