Hack-Gebell

We booked a visit to Hack Gebell for an international birthday party with 24 guests. Aside from the food, the evening was a real letdown. The staff were unfriendly throughout, and even polite questions got curt replies. The birthday guest turning 50 wasn't greeted personally, or even wished a happy birthday. The table decorations were just three carnations, despite a promise of something nicer, and our group was squeezed around three separate tables. For dessert, they even asked whether we needed plates for the strawberry cake or whether napkins would do. We'd hoped to show our guests warm hospitality, and this wasn't what we expected. It's a shame, especially since Southern Styria has so many other lovely wine taverns.

For us, this is a perfect place to get away from daily life and relax, and we'd be glad to return. The breakfast staff are attentive and refreshingly chatty, which fits the spirit of the house. The host family is a big part of what makes it special: things feel open and easygoing here. Brigitte welcomes honesty, direct conversations, constructive criticism, and suggestions, and always tries to make guests comfortable. I also appreciate her efforts to avoid food waste, whether caused by herself or guests. She's passionate, cheerful, and very approachable. Her husband Matthias is up for a chat or a joke whenever work allows. In hospitality, some people will inevitably leave unhappy, especially if their expectations are high. Thanks for the genuine warmth and authenticity. For us, it makes relaxing feel that much easier. ☺️🤷

The setting alone makes you feel like you're on vacation, surrounded by beautiful scenery. At the Hack-Gebell wine tavern, everything came together: fresh, delicious food made with care, and warm, quick service from cheerful staff. It's an easy place to relax and feel comfortable. Highly recommended!
