Superior Chalet Gamskar

The view is lovely, and the walk along the Bergweg to Bad Gastein makes for an easy, scenic 40-minute outing. The apartments are very spacious, fully equipped, and have their own entrance.

The exterior work on the neighboring property about 100 meters away and the slope stabilization are now finished. We think the setting is idyllic, a little secluded but easy to reach, and snow is cleared early in winter. Our photos are genuine and unedited, and many guests have loved the views of Bad Gastein. You can also read other reviews of Chalet Gamskar on holiday rental and apartment portals and decide for yourself. We always try to put our guests first, so we're very sorry when someone's stay doesn't go well, as described in the previous review. We only heard about the problem halfway through their holiday, and we hadn't known how extensive the neighbor's construction would be. The slope work had only been scheduled for October. We offered the guests the option to leave and continue their holiday at a later date, and refunded part of the price. That's why this kind of review is especially disappointing to us. The beds are comfortable, there's parking for three cars right outside, and the Bad Gastein ski area is nearby with plenty of beautiful, long runs. Inside, you'll find everything you need. A few extra dish towels would be useful, though. We especially liked the sauna and the cozy feel of the living room with its wood-burning stove. It's a lovely cabin just outside town. In winter, you'll need snow chains for the short, steep hill up to the house.

We spent three weeks at Chalet Gamskar in September 2023. The house itself is beautiful and very well equipped, but the construction around it made the stay miserable. A new holiday residence was being built uphill, with trucks, excavators, and suppliers going past the small access road beside our terrace all day. Saws, hammers, and engines started up with the work, which began before 7:30 every morning except Sunday. Even trying to nap or relax at midday was out of the question. After about a week and a half, work began reinforcing the slope above us. A compressor ran from morning to night, along with drilling and hammering, while helicopters circled the terrace several times a day bringing materials in and out. We contacted the landlords then. They acted as though they hadn't known, and asked us to send photos and videos. But the building site was already there, and they knew slope stabilization was planned for September, even if they didn't know the exact date. We considered leaving, but couldn't find somewhere else at short notice, so we stayed. The landlords offered us a free week, which we declined because the place wasn't really to our taste and we had no idea how long the work would go on. We did receive some money back, but it felt completely out of proportion to what we paid. Worse, we believe they knowingly let us arrive without warning us about either the building site or the slope work. They must have known nobody would want to spend their annual holiday like this, but chose to take their chances. The photos make it look as if you'd see the Bad Gastein valley from the house, but from the terrace we saw fir trees, carports, and a parking lot. The view toward Hofgastein from the side was quite nice. The narrow access road is difficult, and if you meet another car you may have to reverse a long way. In winter that would be a nightmare for me. Walking to the village takes about 45 tiring minutes.
