The hike to Straden was really nice, and we enjoyed the stay this time, though we wouldn’t return. We arrived just after the farm’s annual event and had to ask around before finding someone who could show us the camper spots. They’re small, but adequate. The sanitary block was the biggest drawback, quite run down, with use described as ‘your own risk’. I’ve never seen that at a campsite. The playground also comes with an ‘at your own risk’ notice, which might be understandable, except some equipment, like the swings, is in poor shape. There was stuff scattered everywhere, making the place feel messy. We know farms aren’t usually spotless, but this was a lot. We also noticed extensive use of asbestos corrugated sheets. The brochure had four or five pages about the farm’s history, which was nice. Some advice on nearby places or hiking routes would have been more useful, though.

There are lots of trails close by, and on our two-day visit we went to the Bad Gleichenberg thermal baths and then to the Lindner wine tavern in Gnas. The farm itself is traditional and charming, run by a lovely family. The rooms are nicely furnished, and we found the meals filling enough, with lunch and dinner available and breakfast adequate too. With all the animals, it seems especially appealing for families with small children. We highly recommend it.

Even our older kids were delighted by the farm animals! We were greeted with such warmth and cheer, and treated just as nicely throughout. A definite recommendation, and an easy five stars 🌟

Our grandson had a wonderful time, and it was clear the animals are very well looked after. Everyone was kind and friendly during our lovely holiday. We highly recommend the farm and will definitely come back.

The animals were the best part for my daughter, who was thrilled by all the different species. The owner, Alfred, has a lovely connection with them, and they’re very welcoming to children. There’s also a small pool that’s just right for cooling down, plus a room with billiards, darts, air hockey, and foosball. It can be tricky to locate, so ask where it is. The farm is beautiful, with plenty to do, and the owners are kind and clearly love animals. It has a comfortable, homely feel. The food is generally very good, though I’d have liked more produce straight from the farm.
