Chalet Belle Wild

The chalet left us with a good impression overall. We spent New Year’s there with a large group, and the Tyrolean design was cool. The lighting setup is complicated, though after a week we could work it out. One thing to know is that the house is made up of two separate chalets, and the Google photos show both. We rented the one on the left. The large, cozy living room was a highlight, with a fireplace, panoramic windows on both sides, and views of nature and a stream. There’s also a bar with different glasses, a coffee maker, a dishwasher, and a mini fridge. It opens onto a big terrace with a table and electric grill. The layout is unusual. Downstairs there are two bedrooms, one master and one very distinctive double room, as well as a fireplace room and kitchen-dining room. Upstairs are two more bedrooms with double beds. One is split-level and has a “balcony” with another double bed. There’s one large bathroom with a shower, bath, and toilet, plus a smaller one with a bath and toilet. The kitchen-dining room has small windows set low near the floor, and the kitchen has two coffee makers, a toaster, and assorted utensils. It was odd to find just one lid for several pots and pans, the induction hob didn’t work with a couple of pans, and small pots were missing. The distinctive downstairs bedroom seemed to have been a utility room. It has a washing machine that’s always shut away and seems suffocated, along with electrical cabinets. It’s colder than the other rooms, so whoever sleeps there is clearly less comfortable than the rest of the group. For a place rented to skiers, the lack of ski facilities is strange. There’s nowhere to store skis or dry boots and clothes, and there are no radiators. Clothes can only be dried by lighting the fireplaces. There’s no sauna either. The fireplaces are on the first and second floors, but hard to light because of poor draft. The chimneys probably need cleaning. The bathrooms had good quality soap, shampoo, and shower gel. Towels and bed linen were good, and the mattresses and pillows were comfortable.

The management was uncooperative and arrogant. Two days before the contract ended, they shut the door to the outside annex where the clothes dryer is, giving a flimsy excuse. The furniture is old and worn, and the mattresses and pillows are tired and uncomfortable. The kitchen was dirty, and the washing machine is in one of the bedrooms, so imagine trying to sleep or relax with the smell of detergent. The kitchen and dining room windows are at foot level for people walking along the path beside the chalet. They can’t be opened, and there’s no screen.

A lovely house in a beautiful location, and very clean. The kitchen, unfortunately, is only sparsely equipped.

Everything was great. The facilities were excellent, and it was very clean.
