Hotel Mercure Graz City

The room keys often failed, so I had to keep going to the front desk for help. Noise from the neighboring room also came through too easily because the soundproofing was poor. Still, the hotel is well placed for city sightseeing or a short business visit, close to the center, and the rooms are very spacious by European hotel standards. That made for a pleasant, relaxing stay overall.

Breakfast was excellent, and check-in and checkout went smoothly. But during my four-day business trip, the air conditioning only blew hot air even when set correctly, so I had to leave the window open for ventilation. The hotel offered a table fan, but there weren’t enough for everyone. Colleagues on lower floors were afraid to leave their windows open because of safety concerns. I’ve never run into this anywhere else despite paying a lot, and I’d seen complaints about the air conditioning from guests seven months earlier, so it’s frustrating that the problem still hadn’t been fixed. The hotel feels old fashioned and needs renovation.

It’s centrally located, has underground parking, and is close to the Schlossberg. My requests were all handled promptly. The sauna feels a bit behind what other nearby hotels offer, though, and the place could use a painter or facility manager to take care of proper renewal while running the day-to-day business. Still, it’s a place to stay.

The garage is right underneath the hotel, and breakfast was pretty nice. The room, though, wasn’t as clean as it should have been. I’d already heard about the tidiness from a colleague who stayed here in 2022, so it seems to be a long-running issue. The picture I’m sharing was taken on the day I left, but I noticed the problem after my first night of four.
