Alfaierhof & Alfaier Bergheimat

The mountain views are lovely, and the location made this a pleasant stop on our drive between Italy and Germany. Parking was plentiful, and the reception/restaurant felt cozy with Christmas music playing. The young staff member did his best to help us. Our soup arrived lukewarm at first, but he took care to bring it back piping hot. The room was quite basic. Though it was described as having a kitchen, there was hardly anything in it, not even a tea bag or coffee maker, so you may want to bring your own. Wi-Fi only worked well around reception and didn’t reach our room. We also didn’t see the cows featured in the photos. You can buy some food, including breakfast, but there’s no menu anywhere on the website. Nice setting, but the amenities didn’t feel up to the four-star claim.

A lovely spot for either summer or winter. The staff welcomed us warmly, and breakfast each morning was decent. They even showed us around the milking sheds, where we got to see the cows and calves. Beautiful place, beautiful setting.

I lost money over this booking, and the way it was handled felt very unprofessional. I booked through booking.com and had tried calling first, but nobody answered. I then messaged to say we’d be bringing a dog. An hour later, the hotel told me to cancel the reservation myself because they had no rooms that allowed dogs. We were already on the road, left without accommodation or help, and had paid. When I asked what to do, the hotelier still told me to cancel it myself and did not help us find another hotel as booking.com’s rules required. Booking.com confirmed a refund of just 50%, and I probably won’t get the rest. They should make clear in future that only a few rooms accept dogs.

There was a cowshed beneath our apartment style room, so we couldn’t open the window. It was a funny, unusual experience, though the smell wasn’t too bad. The view was great. You do have to pay a toll to get there.
