Pension Leopoldine Hotel

The building is more than 150 years old, and it has a really cozy feel. Our room was huge, with space for 6-8 people, and had all the basics plus a microwave and oven. The tap water comes straight from the surrounding mountains, and the view over the village square was stunning. The restaurant downstairs served food that was simply divine, far beyond what we expected. We slept wonderfully, and at breakfast the owner even let us have the pastries without charging us. Since it was my first time in Hallstatt, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a small town, but the owner greeted us warmly and helped bring our luggage upstairs. I wish I could give the hotel a special “fabulousness” star, but that isn’t an option.

The waiter seemed annoyed that we were even there, although my wife spoke German to him. I’ve traveled to more than 50 countries and have never seen such disrespect. You can’t sit down just to have a drink, even though the prices are enormous.

My room was quiet, very clean, comfortable, and well air conditioned, which mattered during the hot weather. The view was spectacular, and they kindly kept my luggage the next morning while I continued exploring. Pension Leopoldine exceeded all my expectations and made my one night in Hallstatt really memorable. It’s right in the heart of town, just a few minutes on foot from the ferry port if you arrive by train and ferry. The welcome was warm from the moment I arrived. They quickly showed me around, gave me a map with suggestions for nearby places to visit, and then showed me to my room. I’d recommend staying here. Thank you to the team at Pension Leopoldine.

Skip this place if you want a good meal in Hallstatt. It was awful and felt like a scam. I’d rather go hungry.
