Die Alm 1350

The drinks and food were fine, though nothing special. What bothered me was the surly service, which didn't feel like the usual Austrian welcome, and the way the service charge was handled. I was asked whether I wanted to add the “usual amount,” supposedly a couple of euros, but the waiter added 10% without telling me. Other reviews make it sound like this is how they operate, and it feels like customers are being ripped off.

The toilets were really dirty, with urine on the floor and walls. I've seen cleaner ones in an average Paris nightclub. The location is good and the food is OK, although it takes a long time. But there was no service to speak of. Before I could even say how much I wanted to pay, the waiter told me in very poor English that 10% tip is common. Why he was speaking English to a German-speaking group is another question. Never experienced anything like it. Service gets 0/5, sadly. Only the location deserves a mention on the Saalbach map.

The food was great and well priced, and the drinks were lovely but quite expensive. Once we ordered, the rude blond waiter brought the food quickly, but then we waited half an hour just to try to order dessert. I asked two other waiters for help after 20 minutes. The first brushed us off, and the second shouted that we weren't in his area. We gave up on dessert and tried to pay, which took another 15 minutes. Our original angry waiter couldn't work the card machine and shouted and argued with other waiters, waiting customers and the machine. Rude, incompetent service, good food, and 45 minutes to pay.

The food was nice and the Hugo drinks were great, but there was a worrying payment mix-up. We had to ask three times for the receipt and wait for three different waiters before getting it. Then we saw we'd been charged for an extra drink we hadn't ordered or received. They gave us the money back, of course, but it shouldn't have happened. It may have been a simple mistake, though the trouble getting a receipt makes that harder to believe.
