Passhöhe

We had a friendly, helpful waitress on our weekday visit with the family, and her recommendations for coffee, cakes and desserts were great. It was a very different story on Sunday. We waited 25 minutes, but they didn't want to serve us, while people who arrived after us got coffee and beer straight away. I was really disappointed. Maybe I should learn German, since the other customers ordered in German and were served immediately. It was our first visit to Hohentauern and this cute family restaurant in Hohentauern.

We came away happy we'd stopped in this small town along a very scenic route. The food was outstanding, and you could tell the chef put a lot of passion and care into it. We had beetroot soup and spinach-stuffed pasta, both excellent. The homemade cheesecake is a must.

The salad, Steiermark style, was delicious, with at least 10 ingredients, including giant Käfer beans. We also had Wiener and Hühne schnitzel on Monday's ‘schnitzel-abend’. Both were in the running for the best schnitzel ever, with a super light, fluffy, crunchy coating. Panna cotta with cherry compote confirmed how good the kitchen is. Add the very friendly, quick service and this is a must-go restaurant for anyone. There were three of us.

I’d love to return and try the Restaurant's food. The menu and philosophy appeal to me, and the approach felt professional and attentive. We hadn’t realized that arriving at 14:10 was too late for lunch at Passhöhe Restaurant. The kitchen serves lunch only between 11 and 14 o'clock. Passhöhe's website states this clearly, so we can't really complain. We just need to respect how it works and adapt if we can.
