The spatzle was fine, though nothing special. The tagliatelle was a different story: it was so overcooked that it fell apart into lots of tiny pieces, with the biggest perhaps 2cm. I was really disappointed, especially after seeing several promising vegetarian options on the menu. I wouldn't serve the Homemade tagliatelle with tofu bolognese this way in my own restaurant. The spatzle is why I gave two stars instead of one, since the tagliatelle alone deserves just one.

We booked a table for six at 6pm several days ahead and arrived right on time. A little over an hour later, after just a simple main course with no starter, soup, or special dish, we asked for dessert and were told, with no warning, to take our ice cream and coffee in the hotel lobby so the table could go to more diners. Service after that was predictably slow and cumbersome, and the other guests stared at us as if we were strange creatures in a zoo. It was a very bad experience and put a sour end to an otherwise excellent alpine holiday. The menu was varied, the food decent, the staff friendly, and the location central with plenty of parking nearby, but that didn't make up for it.

The food was excellent, but the service was poor and unfriendly. We missed some of our food, and the person who took our order didn't even apologize.

After coming down from the main hiking trails, a cold beer hit the spot. I also admired the painting on the elevation!

The family who run Gasthof Bären are kind and helpful, and the service is excellent. They even helped me find a room when they had no vacancies themselves. The hotel is lovely and clearly cared for with a lot of love. I highly recommend staying with them.
