Das Hohe Salve Sportresort

We had a weekend break here and it was just right, about an hour’s transfer from Innsbruck. The spa and sauna spaces are lovely and smart, with plenty of places to relax, and the outdoor heated pool was great. The buffet breakfast was wonderful, and service was generally friendly and efficient. A great sport and ski hotel.

I spent the day spa from 14:00 to 17:00, with about ten other people around. It may get busier after 18:00. Entry was around 75 Euros, and I think visits are meant to be booked for morning, afternoon, or evening slots. The saunas open around 13:00 or 14:00, depending on which one. Staff were very friendly, and the place looked clean and modern. It’s not a huge spa, but there’s a Finnish sauna at about 90°C, a bio-sauna around 60°C, a steam sauna near 50°C, and two infrared saunas with heated chairs. The warm pool is about 30°C and extends outdoors. Sitting outside with the steam rising and the mountains in view was really cozy. There’s also a roughly 25-meter sport pool at about 20°C, a couple of relaxation rooms with loungers and beds, a gym, and a massage area. I didn’t try the gym or massages. Bathing clothes didn’t seem expected in the saunas, though everyone I saw wore them in the pools.

The pool and gym were great, and the location made it easy to walk from the train and to the slopes. The bar had board games and live music, which was a nice touch. Breakfast was very good, but I may have had the worst martini of my life there. The server was great about making another when I politely asked. We were also disappointed that none of the hotel restaurants could fit just the two of us in for dinner at any time that evening. Reception could have suggested booking ahead. The online photos look outdated, and the walls and carpets need replacing, with lots of dents and damage in the walls and hallways. There are no fridges, kettles, or tea and coffee in the rooms, so I wouldn’t recommend staying more than a night or two.

We booked because of the 25m pool, though I didn’t end up using it much :). The hotel was full, but the soundproof, very quiet rooms meant we didn’t hear anyone else. There’s a great breakfast and dinner buffet, friendly staff, and lovely amenities, all right across from the lift. We’ll be back!
