Hotel Goldene Krone

We found the hotel clean and comfortable, and the location was great. The reception schedule was the main problem: the entrance is locked from 11am to 3pm, then unlocked only until 7pm. We arrived at 11.10am, so had to leave our luggage and spend nearly four hours wandering around and sitting in cafés while we waited.

The only real plus was the location. This was the most expensive hotel on our trip, so we expected it might be the nicest, but it was actually the worst. Our floor was dirty, and there was body hair all over the sheets and blanket. Breakfast was included but very basic. People stayed at their tables after finishing, nobody asked them to move, and we ended up standing to eat.

The staff were lovely and eager to help, and I really liked the breakfast spread: cereal, yogurt, coffee, cocoa, tea, milk, bread, ham, cheese, jam, and more. The location is also great, about five minutes on foot to downtown and the attractions, and roughly the same to Innsbruck HBF, or one bus stop. You can spot the big gate at the intersection. The room was a little small, with traffic noise outside and church bells. The big issue is the staff hours, only 7-11am and 3-7pm. Outside those times there’s nobody there and the door is locked. I had to walk back to the train station to store my luggage and pay another €20, which was tiring and wasted time. Check when you’re arriving for check-in.

For €160 a night, this was a terrible stay. We could hear everything from the neighbors’ bathroom, and my parents had to change hotels because their room had no bathroom or toilet, not even a shared one on the floor. Housekeeping would have walked into our room at 9:00am if I hadn’t locked the door. The plastic shower cubicle was so cramped I could barely turn around, and I asked reception to borrow an iron and board. They said they’d look, then never even told me they didn’t have one. The location is central, sure, but I’d have had a nicer time falling asleep in a bar.
