Hotel Madlein

The spa facilities are impressive, with a large indoor pool, a quiet room, a staffed bar, an outdoor hot tub and a textile-free sauna. But the outdoor areas have signs saying young children shouldn’t use them, and nobody enforced that. Kids were running around like it was a school playground, so it didn’t feel relaxing. Young children don’t belong in a nude sauna or adult area, and it was rude to the guests trying to unwind. I wish the hotel would enforce its rules instead of being so passive. Otherwise, the hotel itself is gorgeous, new and really nice, with good service for the most part. It’s about a five-minute walk to everything you need.

The restaurant staff were rude and sarcastic, with an attitude more suited to Schatzi bar than a respectful hotel. And during my three-day stay, I never once got in an elevator without dirty laundry in it. The rooms are wonderful, the spa is great, the bar and lounge and lobby are very nice, and the views are beautiful, especially after snowfall.

My glasses were taken from my robe at the spa. When I asked reception for help, the staff were rude, dismissive and completely unhelpful, with no empathy at all. It ruined what could have been a pleasant stay. A very disappointing experience.

The rooms, pools and spa facilities are excellent, but the service was poor. After a long drive and flight, we arrived at 9 p.m. and waited about 30 minutes at reception before anyone helped us. We’d booked six months ahead and didn’t remember that dinner was included. Nobody told us about the included meals at check-in, and we only discovered at checkout that we hadn’t used the dinner. We accept that some responsibility was ours, but expected the hotel to show some accountability. The replies we got were brief and strictly factual.
