There's a lot going on behind the comfortable, spacious apartments. I was struck by how carefully the owners have combined the natural materials with all the efficient technology. The heating uses a geothermal pump, the walls, and possibly the roof, have photovoltaic cells, and the insulation seems excellent. The details are all there without being intrusive, and you can tell the owners are proud of what they've made. The interiors are full of spruce and larch, from the ceilings and floors to most of the walls. The wood seems untreated, so you can still touch and smell the real tree. The big windows, attractive finish, and good equipment make the apartments excellent places to stay. I've been twice already and plan to come back. The house sits at the top of the village, with a lovely view towards the valley. There's a bar serving drinks, pizza, and similar food as part of the usual service. I also noticed some gym equipment, so I assume guests can use it. The infrared room is meant mainly for spine therapy, though I didn't try it and will leave that for next time.

The apartment is nice and well located, but the wooden walls mean you can literally hear your neighbor snoring at night. The owner made the experience awkward and wasn't very kind to kids.

After we arrived, the owner showed us the apartment's facilities and pointed out nearby places to eat. There was also a selection of breakfast breads available for free, with the rest of the breakfast cooked by ourselves. Everyone liked the apartment, and we spent some time taking photos there. I'd been put off by the payment arrangements before check-in, but this became my favorite apartment of all my travels. On July 20, 2023, we checked into an apartment in Grossglockner, Austria, and were given 100 yuan (Figure 3) in CNY. The reception room was empty when we went in, and there was a 100 RMB note on the table, which seemed odd. We later learned from the landlord that we'd been lucky to get a one-night stay because of his mistake. Normally he requires at least three consecutive nights. When we arrived, he asked us to put our luggage in the elevator and took us to the apartment bar. He offered a glass of good local wine, perhaps white wine. I don't usually drink, but he was so enthusiastic that I clinked glasses with him and drank it. Later he told me the 100 yuan was a gift. He'd worked in solar energy before retiring and had visited Shanghai, China, five times 20 years ago. Since the apartment opened, we were the only Chinese guests it had hosted. The green building at the upper right of Figure 1 is the apartment we stayed in, and the black section in front is the solar panel.

We had a great time at Haus Maritchen, where we stayed in week 7 of winter 2016. There were 10 of us, so we rented two apartments. Maritchen and Stephan are a warm, professional couple, and Maritchen in particular made our stay very enjoyable. The location was ideal for getting to and from the ski area and the small town center. The apartments were large, new, and luxurious.

We're already planning to come back, and we'd definitely recommend it. The location right by the ski slope is superb, the apartments are spacious with beautiful views, and the pizza on site is almost Italian :-) None of the information is exaggerated.
