The hotel put on a great fireworks show to finish the evening. We spent New Year’s there, and the food was delicious, with prosecco too. A perfect night.

The portions are generous for the price, and the food was still great on my return this year. I first stopped here for lunch last year while visiting the monastery. The restaurant is very close to the train station, so it's an easy place to eat while waiting for a train. I'd recommend it if you're visiting the monastery, 10 out of 10.

We took our business elsewhere after calling to ask if they were open for dinner. The person who answered was rude and made derogatory comments about us asking, even though many restaurants in Austria have "Ruhetage". We never actually stopped in.

There are cafes, restaurants and bars close by, and breakfast is okay, though there were only a couple of hot options when we stayed, scrambled eggs and boiled eggs. The hotel is a small, cute gasthouse style place with decor from the 1970s or 1980s. Some rooms have air conditioning and others don't, so rooms can get very hot in summer. The lift doesn't reach the top, 3rd floor, and you have to take the stairs from the 2nd floor.

Hotel-Restaurant Anker sits right next to Klosterneuburg Abbey, making it a handy, affordable place to stay and eat while exploring the town and the historic abbey. The rooms are spacious, and the breakfast buffet is magnificent. The town's old houses, some dating from the Middle Ages, speak to its long history. Its 19th-century train station links the area with Vienna and beyond. Danube regulation also began in the 19th century, with dams and locks improving navigation and flood protection.
