We stayed for four nights recently and were very happy with it. Parkbad entry was included, and it’s just a two-minute walk away. We also had nice chats with the owners, who shared tips for restaurants and day trips. Our apartment was clean and seemed newly renovated. We can’t confirm the condition described in some of the older reviews. It’s a great base for all sorts of outings, and definitely worth a stay. We’d be glad to come back! :)

Dear readers, I’ve never written a review before, but our experience was so negative that I wanted to explain what happened. We booked nine nights after reading the reviews and were glad to see that the landlord had responded to criticism and planned renovations. A couple’s 2018 review mentioned dated furniture and a missing shower door. We ended up in that very apartment. The landlord said the bedroom and bathroom were being renovated and that the kitchen would get new furniture. There was a fitted kitchen, but the rest of the furnishings were from the same era as the bedroom. The bedroom carpet was sticky and stained, the apartment smelled musty even after airing it out and lighting scented candles, and the coffee machine looked like it had never been cleaned. The kitchen cupboards, especially under the sink, smelled awful. The kitchen bench was so uncomfortable that after five minutes your backside hurt. From the balcony you look straight at the neighboring house. There was no shower door, so people across the hall could see you showering unless you closed the curtain and turned on the light. The toilet and shower can only be reached from the bedroom. The house itself smelled and looked more like a nursing home. We might have overlooked these problems if our last evening, June 2nd, 2019, hadn’t been absolute hell. Our key went missing. We searched for about two hours, even going through the trash, before realizing someone had been in our apartment. Earlier, my partner had noticed the tablecloth was askew but thought nothing of it. At 10:30 p.m. we went downstairs to the landlords’ apartment and knocked. The woman answered. I apologized for coming so late and explained what had happened, asking her to check whether anyone had found a key. At first she said no. I explained it was urgent because it was our apartment key. She looked but found nothing. I then asked more directly whether anyone had a spare key to our rental. She immediately said no. I asked her to speak to her husband, who was in the bedroom, and she explained the situation to him. He got loud and aggressive and said, “You’ll get the key back tomorrow at 9!” I felt sick after hearing that. I insisted that the woman give me my key, and she did. We went back to the apartment in shock. Only then did we realize we’d been robbed. The landlords had entered our apartment illegally and taken our belongings. We couldn’t sleep all night, and I vomited twice. I’ve never experienced anything like it. I still can’t believe it, and I’m glad I noticed the missing key that evening. Who knows whether we’d have got it back otherwise? We only wanted to go home. They also took our beach tickets and helped themselves to our food. We can’t say for sure whether any money was taken. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, which is why I’ve described it as precisely as I can. I advise everyone against staying there and am happy to answer questions.

The Kanauf family are wonderful hosts. Everyone across the generations helps make guests feel well looked after. We’ve been coming for years and look forward to returning every time.

Mr. and Mrs. Kanauf gave us a warm welcome, and we felt right at home. The apartment was well furnished, with plenty of everything, including dishes. We enjoyed our stay and would happily come back.

We come to Krumpendorf regularly for holidays. The apartments are spacious and peaceful, and the lake is an easy walk away. Access to the public swimming area is included. Nearby mountains are great for trekking, and a visit to Klagenfurt in the evening makes a nice change. My partner needs to stay connected for work and appreciates the fast Wi-Fi. The hosts are friendly and always have interesting suggestions for hiking and mountain biking routes.
