Happy Camp

Our stay at Happy Camp was a huge disappointment, and we regretted giving it a chance despite the mixed reviews. The cramped site made it hard to manoeuvre our camper van without scratching it. The owner's rude, inflexible attitude was the real problem. We asked to pay the night before leaving because we had to return the van early and catch a flight. He refused and insisted that nobody could leave before 8 AM. When we explained we needed to go at 7:30 AM, he showed no sympathy and kicked us off the site at 7 PM on Sunday, while still charging us for the night. It was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. We ended up sleeping in a layby, which was honestly a better experience than staying there. If you’re thinking of booking, save your money and do the same.

The location is nice and everything looks clean, but I’d avoid this place because of the people. For 50€, we were offered three rocky, uneven pitches for our tent. We said we couldn’t pitch it there and would look for another campsite. The male receptionist laughed ironically in our faces, then added an ironic “good luck.” We found another campsite nearby for just 35 euros, with a spectacular view, Alpencamp-Marienberg. The joke was on him.

The rooms are comfortable and clean, and it’s a nice place to stay. The staff are welcoming and pleasant, and approachable if you run into any problems. It feels really cozy :)

It’s a lovely campsite in a beautiful location, with stunning views, and it’s very clean. Happy Camp must be some kind of in-joke, since the staff are hilariously grumpy and apparently well known locally for it. I’d have given five stars, but the pitches are tiny and poorly marked, there are only two men’s showers so queues form, and the staff are rude. Otherwise, it’s a lovely site.
