The wellness area looks modern, but the Gasthof itself feels a bit old. The kids’ playroom downstairs felt creepy to us, and I wouldn’t want to go down there alone. Getting into the hotel is awkward with a stroller or wheelchair because of the stairs. We have a baby, and I had to lift the stroller in and out at the main entrance. The hallway also smelled old, with a strange chemical odor, perhaps from housekeeping. We had half board. Breakfast was fine but nothing special, while dinner was better. The catch is that you have to leave the hotel and go to the neighboring building for dinner, which was inconvenient in the cold winter weather. You have to bundle up, then take your thick clothes off again after the minute or two walk. For me, this definitely wasn’t a five-star stay.

Our room was in the newer part of the hotel and was pristine, with plenty of space for four, bunk beds for the teens and a small kitchenette. Most of the staff were friendly. When we thought we’d thrown our keys in the trash while leaving, they didn’t make fun of us as stupid Americans, and the keys turned out to be in the room. Breakfast was amazing, and we enjoyed the spa, though walking across the parking lot to the area where you change into clothes was a little inconvenient. The hotel is on the main street, so there isn’t much ambiance, but the pool has a great mountain view. From the balcony, the train was a quaint sight and wasn’t loud.

We stayed one night on the way to Italy, and the pool and spa are new and quite nice. It worked well for a night or two, but I wouldn’t choose it for a full holiday week. The railway runs right behind the hotel and may disturb your sleep, especially in summer with the window open. Breakfast was okay, though I expected more variety and better quality for the price.

The mountain views were unlike anything I’ve seen, and the location was perfect. Everyone on staff was so friendly. I loved the breakfast and the beautiful pool and spa. I hope I get to return someday. 10/10, I recommend it to everyone.
