I loved it. The location couldn't be better, and breakfast was brilliant, with enough options to get everyone's day started. The whole hotel was spotless, clean and comfortable, and the staff were lovely. It's welcoming and has old world charm, exactly what a hotel should be. I've seen reviews complaining there's not enough artwork, but I've never travelled expecting hotel artwork to make the difference to my stay.

It’s a no-nonsense hotel, and I’d be happy to visit again. The Hotel Sonne is right in the heart of Lienz, and the design is very well thought out. I enjoyed my room, with its sofa, desk, wardrobe, and large bathroom with a bathtub. After a long travel day, that hot bath was a real treat. Breakfast had lots of good choices, and the staff were very nice. The hotel may need renovation, but everything works well and the price is fair.

The room was large and clean, breakfast was good, and check-in was easy with English spoken. The location suited us as a stopover, and the town was pleasant, though it got rowdy later on. Street parking is free at weekends, while the hotel's underground car park costs an extra 15 euros. We barely slept, though. In the sweltering heat there was no AC or fan, and no kettle or tea and coffee in the room. Noise carried from town at night and from the area in front of the hotel until after 3am. Then the road sweeper came at 7am, even on Sunday.

The staff are lovely, but we found the stay absolutely horrible. It felt like being in a bunker, with no decorations or artwork. Paint was peeling, and the bathroom tiles were cracked and dangerous. It was very expensive for what it is. The rooftop bar was closed while they redid the roof, with no compensation and no mention except for a note in the lift. Hostels and campgrounds are better value. Do not stay here.

We paid a really good price in mid-August compared with the competition. It was a great spot for our one-night stay, right in the heart of the city. Breakfast was good, the window seats were nice, and the beds were comfortable. We also got free underground parking for our motorcycles. The ladies at reception were really kind.
