We reached this beautifully located campsite by bike after a long day, arriving after 5 p.m. It was terribly hot, and the lady told us the system was full and there was no room. But half the tent area looked empty when I walked around. I went back and pleaded for just one night for our small tent, since we needed to move on around 7 the next morning. Still, the answer was that the system was the system, with no warmth or friendliness. I’ve camped on many bike trips and have never been turned away in a situation like that. Be careful if you don’t have a reservation.

The setting is beautiful, with mountains all around at 1,200 metres above sea level. There’s plenty for children, including a playground or adventure area, goats and sheep to pet and feed, and space to play football. You can build a fire, with chopped wood available, or use the ping-pong table. The shared areas stayed clean enough despite being used all day. There are dedicated rooms for washing dishes, laundry, and drying clothes and shoes, plus a proper shower area for washing your dog. The campsite was peaceful and quieter than I expected given how many people and kids were there. It’s easy to reach by bike, car, or caravan. The town is cute, with small shops and restaurants and a friendly, homey Alpine feel. Recommended if you enjoy nature and don’t need lots of gear and accessories.

The mountain views are the best part of this site, and my husband and I both thought it was the best campsite we’ve ever stayed at. The receptionist was friendly, helpful, and full of useful information when we arrived. We could choose our own pitch and park next to the tent. Facilities are very good, with spotless showers and toilets, a drying room with space for bikes, two communal fridges, and a freezer. We also got a locker with an electric charging point for phones and other tech. There’s a washing-up room and even a shower room for dogs. The on-site restaurant is worth a visit, though it’s closed Mondays and Tuesdays. There are also restaurants in town and a good supermarket. Sheep, goats, rabbits, and a play area keep children busy. Mornings and evenings can be chilly, so experienced campers will be ready for that. Highly recommended.

A great base for hikes in the heart of Nationalpark Hohe Tauern. The facilities are modern and clean, the staff are friendly, and the restaurant serves extremely delicious Austrian specialities.
