The only real plus for us was the lakeside location. We’re early retirees who travel full time and often support independent businesses, so we’d been looking forward to a restful stay after three great visits to Amsterdam, Prague, and Vienna. This was anything but relaxing, and the service and accommodation were very poor. We prepaid for an expensive stay and can’t afford to move, so we’re stuck here for four more nights. Our check-in went smoothly. The woman at reception was friendly and helpful, and arranged a room change after we were given one of the hotel’s worst views. The rooms are okay for the area and have been furnished in a more modern style, but there’s plenty of wear. The first room’s balcony had a huge wasp nest and spider webs everywhere. The balcony in our current room badly needs paint and repairs, and has two sad-looking old sun loungers we wouldn’t want to use. You can see the lake, but the rough balcony roof and the restaurant’s dirty roof spoil much of the view. The bathroom is very small, though I do appreciate the underfloor heating. We’ve had repeated problems with basic service. Shower gel wasn’t replaced, and there’s been no shampoo. Staff claimed the shower gel was shampoo too, despite the warning not to get it in your eyes and other reviewers’ photos showing shampoo. I assume they’ve run out and don’t want to admit it. We had to go to reception at 7:30 in the morning to ask for shower gel. Housekeeping said reception opened at 7, so we made two trips before finding someone there. I don’t know why housekeeping couldn’t just give us some. Water isn’t replenished each day either, which is another hassle when there are no shops or other restaurants nearby. We were already awake for a second night without proper rest because someone upstairs had their TV blaring from 5:45, and a child in the next room was screaming. Reception said the TV guest had been there for two weeks and many people had complained. Management seems to have done nothing, leaving everyone else to put up with it. At the restaurant on our first night, the host spoke to us exceptionally rudely. We were told there was one table and we could take it or leave it because every other table was reserved. There’s literally nowhere else to eat locally, so we took the worst table. Our waiter was a little friendlier and later offered us a window table. We moved, and all the nearby tables stayed empty, so I don’t understand why the host had to be so unpleasant. The food was just okay for the high prices, the menu is limited and has no Austrian fare, and a basic gin and tonic cost an outrageous 16 euros. Breakfast is adequate, but there aren’t many hot choices. Maybe you can request others, but for the last two mornings nobody has greeted or spoken to us except to clear plates, so I honestly don’t know. The staff clear tables and seem to spend most of their time chatting near the kitchen. We asked management to move us to a quieter room and were more or less told that if we didn’t like it, we could leave. Wi-Fi is poor, and this isn’t the place for anyone who wants English-language TV. I can’t recommend the hotel for comfort, quality, service, or value.

It’s a hidden gem above the lake, and the staff are friendly. The hotel had just opened for the season when I visited. Rooms are spacious, with luxury amenities, and breakfast is excellent, though the buffet has few hot choices. You can add hot items if you like. The staff are very helpful, especially Philip at reception and the two women at breakfast. One little detail: the room key is the traditional older kind!

The rooms weren’t clean, the internet was bad, and the staff attitude was poor. After checking in, we could see the hotel didn’t look like the photos, so we spoke to the manager. We raised it with him again after two nights. He agreed there were problems but said there was nothing he could do. Then he suggested we find somewhere else and promised the hotel would cover our first two nights because the mistakes were theirs. We checked out, clearly unwelcome, but he charged us for those nights anyway. He also called the hotel we moved to and put them on notice. I wouldn’t trust this manager, and I can’t recommend staying here. Just don’t bother.

We arrived with my family hoping to find a room and something to eat, but at the beach entrance a woman and a man on staff stopped us. They said the beach was only for hotel guests without asking what we were there for. We tried speaking in both German and English, but their limited command of each made it hard to have a useful conversation. The poor service doesn’t meet the standards we expect for our readers. I’m the head publisher of a well-known holiday and hotel magazine, and I’ve decided to remove the hotel from our catalog and magazines soon. Our publications usually send it about 35 referrals a month, a benefit it no longer deserves. I personally advise against considering it for a future stay.

The location, breakfast, and restaurants are great, but customer service needs work. Half the staff were very friendly; the other half need better training. We had written confirmation for a room with a safe, chairs, and a lake view. Instead, we got a family room with two extra beds we didn’t need, no safe or chairs, and a view of the parking lot. Reception said it was the only room available. I don’t remember anyone apologizing. After we discussed it, they said another guest hadn’t arrived and a lake-view room was free, but we’d have to pay extra. I’d never before been downgraded by a hotel and then asked to pay for an upgrade caused by its own mistake. They asked for 30 Euros per night. We agreed without much argument because we didn’t want to spoil the holiday. At checkout, they didn’t ask for anything more, since we’d paid the original booking in full. We thought they’d recognized their mistake and given us the upgrade at no charge. Two hours later they contacted us asking for more than 300 Euros. After a long discussion, we said we’d pay only the agreed 30 Euros per night, and that’s how we settled it. Sorry for the long post, but this kind of bad customer service is frustrating.
