The lake setting is the real magic here: there’s a private beach and a pier, and I’d come back for that and the lovely staff alone. The hotel has plenty of character and offers good value. It’s an older building, though the most important areas seemed recently renovated. Everyone was professional, and one of the younger staff members was especially helpful and easy to talk to in English. Dinner needs to be ordered before lunchtime, which felt odd, but they’ll help you find somewhere else if you haven’t booked ahead.

A quiet, pleasant hotel with a nice breakfast and friendly staff. It’s only about a minute’s walk from the water, and we could leave our SUP there. There’s lots to explore by SUP. You’ll want a car for places farther away, like Klagenfurt.

We all had a lovely holiday in Maria Wörth, with helpful hosts and very good service. We were a group of 16 in town for Ironman Austria 2014, and every one of us finished on time! Our rooms were on different floors and varied in type, but they were all tidy and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, even at 4 a.m. before the race. We also ate dinner at the hotel a few times, and special requests for the athletes were no problem. They even arranged a pasta party for us.

We barely slept because of the smell, and at night we could hear what sounded like rats running inside the walls. The place felt very old and musty, the service was terribly unfriendly, and when we decided to leave early they verbally attacked us instead of understanding why. Never again. Stay away.
