A fantastic place to stay. The house is tastefully furnished in a hunting lodge style and sits conveniently close to the basilica. Mr Günter, the owner, is very kind and has lots of little surprises. He greeted us with welcome drinks, and every day there was a gift by the door. Tea and coffee are free in the bar room, along with several kinds of brandy. There’s also a lovely outdoor smoking area.

The owner met us himself, showed us around, and made us feel very welcome at this small, friendly hotel on the edge of Mariazell. The rooms were clean and well equipped. It’s an older building, which might not suit everyone, but we liked its charm and it still has all the modern amenities you’d expect.

Mariazell itself was beautiful as always, but our three nights at Wilderer Suites/Landliebe Resort were a very different experience. The apartment’s furnishings and decor looked nothing like the units shown on the website. It was run down, dirty, moldy, and unheated during the day in December/January. After we asked for a price reduction, the landlord made accusations, offered weak excuses, and threatened legal action. Quite an experience in hospitality.
