Haus Dorfer

The ski area has something for every skill level, with beautifully groomed slopes and snow even in March. It’s family-friendly too. Lift tickets come in a range of prices and formats, from points and hourly options to day and weekly passes, so there’s something for a smaller budget. For outings in bad weather, Mauterndorf Castle is only about 10 minutes away and well worth seeing. A longer drive over the mountain passes, about 1.5 hours, takes you to Berchtesgaden and the Obersalzberg Documentation Center. At the accommodation, the owners put real care into both running the place and furnishing it, and I’d give the service and value six stars if I could. Breakfast is generous and leaves you wanting nothing. The rooms all have very comfortable beds and private bathrooms, and there’s a ski room for storing your gear. The ski bus stop, restaurants, and supermarkets are all within walking distance.

The apricot trees outside my window made for a magnificent view, and the surroundings are wonderful. We had a lovely week at Haus Dorfer, with warm, very friendly hosts. Our room was spacious and clean, and there’s a lovely garden in the courtyard. Breakfast was exceptional and generous, with nothing missing. Professional bicycles are available to rent.

After a day hiking or skiing, it’s a treat to spend three hours at the local sauna and wellness center, which the accommodation partners with. The room was clean, and we got a carafe of water each day. The hosts were friendly and accommodating, and breakfast was good and plentiful, with eggs cooked to order.

The slopes are a 10-15 minute drive away, and there’s a common room for spending evenings together. The owners are kind and very pleasant, and the owner makes a great breakfast each morning. Our cozy, clean room was cleaned daily. It’s great accommodation at a reasonable price, and we’ll be happy to return!
