Breakfast was very good and was the clear highlight. We didn’t eat dinner ourselves, though several guests repeatedly said the dinner service was poor. The hotel is right next to the Penkenbahn lift, which was its one real advantage. The beds were comfortable, but the Junior Suite was extremely basic for a four-star hotel. Towels were thin and scratchy, and the bathroom had only cheap shampoo and body wash. The shower kept switching unexpectedly between hot and cold. In the spa, only the steam room was usable: the pool described as warm was barely lukewarm, the sauna felt no warmer than body temperature, and by 7pm there were no towels, even though the spa stayed open until 8pm. The décor looked dated and tired, and the furniture clearly needs replacing. The sofa bed was visibly filthy and unacceptable. Our room was reasonably clean, and the cleaning and service staff were friendly and accommodating, but basic maintenance was neglected. We reported a faulty bathroom light, and it was never repaired during our stay. We were there for our honeymoon, but the hotel made no acknowledgement or effort to mark the occasion, which was disappointing at a four-star property. Noise from the ice bar was completely unacceptable, even though our room wasn’t directly above it. On multiple nights, shouting, singing, and rowdy behavior continued well past 1am. The room was also far too hot, so we had to sleep with the balcony door and windows fully open. Reception staff were consistently curt and sometimes openly rude to other guests. We overheard dismissive, unhelpful exchanges several times, which reflected poorly on the hotel. Charging extra to hire a ski locker as part of a ski holiday package is unreasonable. The advertised transfer time was misleading too: with all the pick-ups and drop-offs, the trip took nearly five hours, not the stated three and a half. If we’d known the actual time, we wouldn’t have chosen that airport. We wouldn’t recommend Sporthotel Strass.

Stocky, the hotel’s ski guide, took us around the nearby mountains for a day, and it was our favorite day of the week. His knowledge, experience, and service were fantastic. We’d absolutely recommend the hotel. The Penken lift is right next door, making access to the slopes easy. Zivan looked after us brilliantly, always attentive and smiling. The room was very warm but clean, with all the facilities we needed. Breakfast and the dinner salad bar were the same each day, but there was still a good range to choose from. The main meals were enjoyable, and we thought the food was good quality.

A great base for Altitude Festival. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and breakfast offered plenty of choice. Staff were lovely and made everything easy. We also enjoyed having the spa and pool as a bonus. The lift is right by the hotel, and everything in town is close. I’d definitely recommend staying here in Mayrhofen.

Five days during a packed comedy festival still weren’t enough to try everything. I managed dinner at the on-site NAMI, which was superb, a quiz night at LIEBIE'S Sports Bar, and a few beers in the IceBar, all without leaving the hotel. Not bad at all. The Penkenbahn lift is so close I could see it from my room, and the hotel is right in the centre of Mayrhofen. Bars, restaurants, a convenience store, and ski and boot hire are all just steps away. Very handy, depending on how much après-ski you intend to “sample.” As a non-skier, having the lift there made a huge difference. If it had been farther away, I probably wouldn’t have gone up, and that would’ve been a mistake. The views are brilliant, and there’s the full pre-, mid-, and après-ski experience to enjoy, purely for research purposes, of course. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, always available without hovering. The spa and pool were a real bonus after a long day or night out, or both. My room was clean, warm, spacious, and comfortable, with everything I actually needed. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of hot and cold options to set you up for a full day, whether skiing or enthusiastically spectating, as I was. I had a really solid stay during Altitude Comedy Festival, and everything felt easy from the moment I arrived. I can’t comment on summer, but if you’re going to Mayrhofen and want somewhere central, relaxed, and well run, Sport & Spa Hotel Strass is a great choice. THANK YOU ALL THE STAFF

We were so pleased to return to Sport & Spa Hotel Strass after our previous stay. Coming from the United States, we love the atmosphere of classic Alpine ski resorts, and this place has the cozy feel, comfort, and convenience we look for abroad, with the lift only steps away. The rooms and shared areas are impeccably clean, and it’s clear how much care the staff put into keeping the whole property spotless. Our spacious, well-designed room had a large walk-in shower and bathroom, and the beds were especially comfortable after skiing. This year I also tried the gym, which has a beautiful view. The equipment was impressive, with a good variety of machines and weights. Afterwards, we could rinse off and change before relaxing in the sauna and steam room. It felt great to recover from our activities and workouts, and everything was clean. There’s a wide range of places to eat at the hotel. We enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners, with dinner offering a different selection of dishes each evening. The restaurant areas were beautifully maintained, and the staff were attentive and accommodating. There’s also a great wine selection: we told our waiter what we liked, and he brought a perfectly paired glass each time. The hotel’s restaurants are good options too. The Italian place had great pizza and pasta, while the Asia fusion restaurant served a high-quality variety of Asian dishes and sushi. Sushi is my favorite food, so I was very happy to have it nearby in the village. The welcoming service is still a highlight. The staff are kind, attentive, and clearly take pride in helping guests feel at ease. Thanks again to Sporthotel Strass and the whole team for making us feel so welcome on our return.
