We had a small room, but it was so cozy that we loved staying in it. The staff were really friendly and helped us figure out transport and places to eat. We tried the restaurant downstairs and were glad we did: everything from the starters through dessert was delicious, and we definitely ate more than planned. This quaint guesthouse sits just outside Innsbruck on a main bus route, so getting there was easy. Great value for the price, and highly recommended.

The breakfast buffet had plenty of tasty choices, and after skiing we were glad the hotel restaurant served delicious Austrian food. There’s also a small bar for a drink before or after dinner. A special thanks to the funny waiter who was so good at his job and made each meal more enjoyable. The closest ski resort is about a 10-minute drive, and the hotel arranged transport for us. Other resorts are another 30-40 minutes away, with breathtaking views along the way. There’s free parking if you drive. We came mainly to ski and weren’t looking to spend much time in Innsbruck, but the guesthouse is only a 10-minute drive away. The bus stop is right across the road, and the guest ticket covers transport around Innsbruck. Yves and Ewelina, who run the place, were lovely and hospitable, always ready to help, and made it feel like a family place. We arrived before the 14.30 check-in time hoping just to leave our bags, but they welcomed us straight away and gave us the room keys early. We absolutely loved staying at Gasthof Zum Schupfen. Thanks to all the staff we met for making our holiday so special. We’ll be back! :) Julia and Christian

We paid in advance for an overnight stop, but when we got there at 11 pm, nobody came. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere with three small children and my pregnant wife after a full day of driving, desperately needing sleep. We’d tried calling that evening to say traffic jams were delaying us, but nobody answered. At the very least, they could have called to say we could no longer check in, so we could look for somewhere else. We emailed afterward and never got a reply. On the way home, we called to ask about booking a night and getting a discount for the night we had already paid for but couldn’t use. An employee said that was fine and we could check in until 8 pm, or 9 at the latest. We called at 7:30 to say we’d arrive at 8:30, and the owner said they were already closed, denied ever saying 9 was okay, and bluntly called us liars. When we said we were stunned by this “hospitality,” or hostility, and would write a review online, he threatened to sue us. Never again!

The house is beautiful, with well-designed, authentic wooden rooms, and we really liked it. But we had to stay in the cold. We’d booked a double room, and she offered us a five-bed family room, saying it was free to use. The heater there was by the entrance door and wasn’t working. We told her twice within half an hour of arriving. The regulator is numbered 0-6 and turns both ways, with instructions for using it, but she simply denied our requests and said it would work automatically when it got cold outside. By 19.30 nothing had changed. She came up and “turned on” the heater, but we were still cold with our small baby. It was hard to find her at reception, since nobody was there; we had to catch her in the dining hall or kitchen. She didn’t say to wait while she helped us in ten minutes, she just ignored us. Eventually she gave a pathetic explanation that it was 21 degrees and that was the standard temperature in Innsbruck, without answering why the heater didn’t work. Then she lectured us about how this was Austria, not Italy, and that’s why it was cold. It was an unbelievable experience, with zero professionalism or customer service. Getting an explanation took two hours. It was so hard to find you, and you never even said you’d hear us out in ten minutes, though you made us wait at least that long to report the problem. The lady at reception in the morning was kind. Haha, you’d even want to decide what we should wear now! Wow, unbelievable arrogance and no care for customers. The only thing that comes to mind is: you reap what you sow. I just want to say what we experienced that day. I have more important things to do than post fake reviews. Thanks.

Top marks for the excellent breakfast. Our room was great, and because we were rushing into town, the kitchen opened early just for us. The receptionist spoke good English, gave us a bus pass, and explained the timetable and where to get off in Innsbruck.
