Ferienhaus Milders

A nice place to stay.

It’s clean and practical, but felt more like a dorm than a guesthouse. There was little sense of care or enthusiasm in how it was run. Framed house rules hang above the beds instead of pictures, and the poor soundproofing made things noisy. Mattresses set in front of doors as sound barriers didn’t help, as the photos show. Some bed linen had holes, and there were no dish towels, among other things. It may be fine if all you need is somewhere to sleep for a few ski days, but we found it poor value for a family holiday.

The hosts are discreet and very kind, and you can park beneath the building. Our apartment faced the glacier, with just the sound of the stream for company. The balcony had a table for drinks and a view, and inside there was a TV, Wi-Fi, a dishwasher, and a fully equipped kitchen, plus a bathroom with a shower. Shops, restaurants, ATMs, and ski bars are all walkable, including the supermarket in Milders. There are two nearby bus stops for Innsbruck or the glacier. A riverside path starts right at the house and goes to the center of Neustift or the swimming pool, and another walk nearby follows the road to the glacier. This is my second summer here, and “perfect” is the right word.

We stayed here in September 2020, three of us in apartment 3, which we had chosen and rented as a 65 m² place. The day before we arrived, the landlady emailed to say apartment 6, at 52 m², would be available instead. We thought the 13 m² difference might show up in the price, but after the holiday we were charged the same as for the larger apartment. The apartment was quite dated and poorly heated. There was no toilet paper, so bring your own, and shoes had to be left outside because dirt on the carpet wasn’t tolerated. The general feel was more youth hostel than holiday home. On Saturday, after après-ski, we were a bit loud on the balcony. The landlady’s son, whose holiday home is opposite, threatened to hit us if we didn’t quiet down. We wouldn’t stay a second time.
