Strandhotel Prinz

The service was genuinely lovely, 12 out of 5! But the hotel feels stuck in the past, and at €245 for one night the dated room was hard to justify. There were no toiletries in the bathroom and nowhere to charge a phone. Breakfast was basic, and the pillow was a disaster.

The lake was lovely for swimming, with an easy way in and no crowds. We arrived around 21:30, after the kitchen had closed, but the owner still made us toast and fries, and even brought us a beer. The owners are hardworking and very friendly. I had read bad reviews and arrived with low expectations and some worries, but none of them came true. We had two rooms and a big balcony overlooking the lake. The rooms were clean and tidy, though the shower was in an unusual spot in the hall, separated off with curtains. It's a simple, lovely place for travelers who want to rest and recharge, rather than a modern five-star hotel. I'll stay here again next time we visit Austria.

Great for families, with a friendly host, clean rooms, comfortable beds and a lovely view. There's a private beach and direct access to the lake, and the kitchen is good.

The lake is the highlight: we had a great time swimming, and you can step straight into the water from the hotel room. The downstairs bar, restaurant and terrace were beautiful and cosy, with a very Austrian feel. The room was a different story: empty and not very homely, with just a wardrobe, bed and a little red coffee table, but no chairs. It felt boring and not very Austrian. Breakfast was nice enough, though nothing special. The owner seemed friendly at first, then less so over time. We wondered if it was because we weren't spending enough at the hotel. I thought the price was high for what you got, but if you enjoy natural water and swimming like I do, it's worth considering for one or two nights.
