Pannonia Tower Hotel Parndorf

The reception, bar, and restaurant look sleek, and the building has a nice design. The staff are professional. Everything else, especially the rooms, feels like a run-down old prison. I don’t know who handles maintenance, but things are falling apart, from the hallway fire doors to basic cleaning and upkeep. They charge at least 50% more for what’s basically a one-star trucker motel.

I stayed in room 340 for two nights with my husband and dogs. The fridge didn’t cool at all, and the shower door wouldn’t close properly because the silicone on its frame was broken. I had to watch for water leaking out while showering. The so-called gym was disappointing too, with no basic equipment like barbells. Cleanliness has steadily got worse during the times I’ve stayed here, at least twice a year. The coffee cups still had stains, and there was a thick layer of dust on the kettle and furniture. After we went out on the second day, housekeeping had changed the towels and folded the blanket, but nothing else. They hadn’t refilled the toilet paper or vacuumed, and my dog’s hair was still on the floor. The reception staff weren’t exactly unfriendly, but they’ve become very businesslike and don’t smile anymore. At check-in, the receptionist wasn’t particularly friendly, which made me reluctant to complain. I also had two dogs with me, so having someone enter the room or packing everything up to move would have been very inconvenient. I wouldn’t have had to consider that if the room had been in good condition. I’ve always chosen Pannonia Hotel, but after this stay I’ll seriously consider nearby options such as Ibis.

I only used the room and restaurant, so that’s what my 3 stars are based on. I didn’t try the sauna or the other facilities. The room was okay, though the walls had dings and scratches. The bathroom was borderline dirty, huge, and full of wasted space, so it felt cold. The toilet also gurgled whenever it was windy outside, all night long. The restaurant was underwhelming, with little food choice. The only beer was Heineken, an instant fail, though the wine list ran to 3 pages. I stayed 1 night and expected more from a supposed 4-star hotel.
