Chalet Amadeus - Designer Luxury Chalet for 14

The room setup was a real letdown. There are two tiny rooms, one without a proper window or even a mirror, and they have to share a bathroom. Meanwhile, two huge bedrooms have their own bathrooms and bathtubs. At first sight, the chalet looks impressive, but the problems showed up as soon as we arrived. The dishwasher was broken, so on the first day we had to hand wash dishes for 12 people. The grill was practically falling apart, and water wouldn't drain from the sinks. Pulling out a plug revealed a clump of hair left by previous guests. The terrace furniture didn't have enough cushions, leaving half of us perched on the lounge's mantle rails. The ones that were there were so thin and worn they were hardly useful. The whirlpool reeked of chlorine, and dirt covered its jets. There was dust in the corners, dirty crockery, and a general sense that everything was worn out and poorly cared for. We wouldn't book it again. The actual accommodation doesn't match its grand, luxurious promises.

The house looks lovely and has lots of room, but we were 12 people and wouldn't book it again. In our experience, the glowing description didn't match what we got, and the complaints we raised were handled very unprofessionally. The location caught us off guard. It's beside a railway line in a mixed-use area, with a multi-story hotel and an industrial plant directly bordering the property. Several things were broken or unavailable. The electric gate didn't work, and the facility manager apparently already knew. When we arrived, he called to ask if one of us could climb over and open it from inside. We did, and the gate stayed open for the whole week. The charging station couldn't be used because he couldn't find a suitable card. The advertised ski and boot cottage wasn't there, and a leak left puddles in one bathroom. Other problems included missing batteries in electrical appliances, which we bought ourselves at the supermarket, and a broken bedside table. Nothing was fixed during our week, and nobody apologized or expressed regret. After many emails, we got the hot tub fee of €350 refunded. Before that, though, we were accused of breaking the patio door, even though we'd used it properly. From our second day, it couldn't be opened, so that was another issue we had to put up with.

The cottage itself is beautiful and looked just like the photos. We had no problems with the accommodation itself. The trouble was everything around communication and money. When I booked, they wanted the full payment straight away but couldn't provide any order confirmation. I paid over 130 thousand CZK (5600EUR), with the cost split proportionally among 14 people. For about 10 days afterward, I wrote every day asking whether it had arrived, while the owner didn't respond. Eventually they confirmed it by email, but only verbally, with no official confirmation such as a PDF order. For the next 4 months I honestly had no idea whether the accommodation even existed. After we left, I asked for the refundable deposit of 1,000EUR back. Following two weeks of pushing, I received 600EUR. Since then I've contacted the house manager every few days, asking him to get the owner to return the rest. He keeps asking whether we used the whirlpool, which was supposed to cost 400EUR. We demonstrably didn't use it or order it. He tells me to contact the owner, who doesn't answer me. At this point, it feels like we were robbed of 400EUR. I usually only write positive reviews, but this stay caused so much stress that I want others to know, so they can avoid that worry and possibly losing money. It's a huge shame that such a beautiful place has this kind of management. I corresponded with the person the administrator called the “owner,” though I think he may be some kind of assistant. During all this, I looked them up a lot, and it seems possible the property belongs to an investment group with many luxury properties. If one of the group's owners reads this, I'd strongly suggest changing the administrator. This setup won't work properly in the long run. Our group of 14 could have imagined coming here twice a year as usual, but after this experience we'll never return.

Our group of friends spent a long weekend in a lovely house with a big kitchen and wellness area. Kaprun was 5 minutes away, and Zell am See took 10 minutes.
