Parkhotel Pörtschach - Das Hotelresort mit Insellage am Wörthersee

The restaurant made our stay difficult. I have celiac disease, and eating gluten causes me severe symptoms. Breakfast was excellent and had plenty of gluten-free choices, but dinner was another story: the menu didn't say which dishes contained gluten, and the waitstaff didn't seem trained to help with food intolerances. Over just four days, I became ill twice with symptoms typical of gluten exposure, including migraine, stomach pain, nausea and extreme fatigue. It really affected how much I could enjoy the stay. A hotel of this standard needs better allergy and intolerance management. There were good things too. The location is perfect, and we loved the sun lounger area and being able to use kayaks and paddle boards on the lake. Our room was spacious and fully equipped for babies and children, which was a real plus.

We had a wonderful three-day stay and can't wait to come back in summer. The room was very clean, had everything we needed, and the breakfast was amazing. We also had a spectacular view, much better than we'd expected. Since it was my husband's birthday, they surprised him with a cake. The staff were so polite and kept checking whether everything was okay, what they could do for us, and how we were feeling. The help from the front desk when we were leaving was especially thoughtful. They printed our train tickets, arranged a car and driver to the station at no cost, and even mailed a letter for us. We also appreciated how the ferry ticket came with a hotel discount. It's only a short walk to the ferry and to the main shops and restaurants on the promenade. Kathi at reception and Sergio in the restaurant were standouts. Both were friendly and knew what good hospitality looks like. We stayed four nights and loved the hotel's 1960s character, especially the grand chandelier in the reception area. As someone who likes mid-century modern architecture, I enjoyed the entrance. Check-in was quick and friendly, and our room was ready when we arrived. We were on the fifth floor facing Velden, with wide lake views and sunsets. The balcony blinds helped cut the glare. The room suited the hotel's era, with a king bed, sofa and plenty of storage. The bathroom was small but adequate, with a good-sized shower, sink, bidet and wc. Housekeeping kept the room very clean each day. We asked for a kettle and it arrived promptly; the restaurant also lent us cups and a teapot. We chose half board and were happy with both the food and the service. Staff explained the menus well, and we could take our time at meals. They saved a bottle of wine we'd left unfinished and had it waiting in an ice bucket at our table the next evening. Breakfast had a wide buffet selection and eggs made to order. At dinner, appetizers and dessert were buffet-style, with soup and main courses served. The final night's dinner was all buffet, with loads of options. I especially liked the traditional Austrian dishes. The lobby bar was clean and welcoming, with reasonably priced drinks, and a nice spot to relax. We had a great stay and would happily recommend this hotel in the Austrian lakes.

The lake view from our room was stunning, and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast had a delicious, broad selection. The hotel is in a fantastic spot, and the staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient. We'll definitely come back for a longer stay.
