Villa Rainer

I wouldn’t recommend this place or go back. They don’t seem to know how to treat customers. In their so-called fine dining restaurant, I ordered soup with bread and a strong cup of tea. The soup came without bread, and I had to go into the kitchen to ask for it. By the time it arrived, we’d finished the soup. The tea came without milk. When I asked for some, I was sternly told, “we don’t drink tea with milk in this country!” Absolutely shocking service.

Breakfast was plentiful and high quality, and the food was reasonably good for the price. I’d return if I were in that part of Austria. The views across the Worthsee were good, and our room was cleaned while we were out. One issue: the restaurant menu wasn’t translated correctly from Austrian into English. “Baked” fish was actually battered, along with one or two other minor translation errors.

At 300 EUR a night, this old, dirty hotel was a real disappointment. The sink wouldn’t drain, the pillows smelled of previous guests, there were dead insects everywhere, and the tile grout was moldy. The room had no coffee machine, safe, or fridge. Breakfast outdoors was completely disrupted by hundreds of wasps around our heads and the table. Despite the very good location by the famous lake, we definitely do not recommend this hotel.

The owner made inappropriate sexual remarks to my mother and friend while I was traveling with them. The hotel’s quality has declined since the change of owners. Breakfast is much more limited than it used to be, and the attention to detail has disappeared. A very disappointing experience.
