Dachstein cable car is just across the way, and the setting is a big part of the appeal. We enjoyed watching the mountains and clouds drift by, with cows sounding off early in the morning. The family, with several generations involved, made us feel genuinely welcome; their personal greetings and hospitality were a lovely touch. Food was fresh and really tasty, and breakfast had a nice range of fresh options each morning, though it’s not a five-star buffet. This is a traditional Austrian Alpine hotel, not a modern city place, so don't expect ultra-modern rooms or extras like a minibar. What it does offer is a good dose of charm, a traditional atmosphere, and a location close to nature. Taking all of that, and the family who run it, into account, it has everything we needed.

We had a great breakfast and dinner, and the rooms were in tip-top shape. The people looking after us were so kind, a really sweet family, and the service was excellent. The hotel is up in the mountains beside the south face of Dachstein, with the gondola next door taking you straight to the glacier. We'd definitely stay again, or drop in for a drink or a meal.

At the foot of Dachstein, Berghotel Turnwald made for a lovely evening out. The calm setting and welcoming atmosphere felt like being in a family home. We enjoyed delicious cheese fondue made with high-quality local ingredients, along with excellent regional wines. The service was professional and friendly, and the family-run care showed throughout. A very enjoyable meal and a nice taste of Alpine hospitality.

We only stayed three nights and wished we could have made it longer. The owners were charming, and the place had a peaceful, cozy feel. Even with a full day of rain, we found time to enjoy some short hikes nearby. Being right among the mountains was a joy, and the panoramic views were breathtaking.

My sister and I stopped in for lunch yesterday, so this rating is just for that visit. The staff welcomed us warmly and were ready to help. We ordered beef soup with liver dumpling, which was excellent, then apple strudel with vanilla cream, which was perfect. 11/10. I highly recommend this hotel.
