The kids loved the light show with music at the ruins, which is a must if you’re nearby. The walk up is easy enough, about 10 minutes.

The views are incredible, and the history makes it an interesting place to visit. You can take lifts to the top, though the hike isn’t too long either. The path is very rocky, so sandals aren’t a good idea. I’m looking forward to coming back in 20 years and seeing how the reconstruction has progressed.

For a glimpse of Tyrolean medieval history, Burgenwelt Ehrenberg and nearby Ehrenberger Klause make an atmospheric visit. The Klause was once a fortified toll gate, and its crumbling archway sits in a dramatic mountain setting. From there, a steep climb brings you to the Ehrenberg fortress ruins. Some parts have been restored, and the alpine views are panoramic. It’s a compact, characterful site, and walking across the Highline179 makes a good addition.

A stunning place, though there’s quite a bit of walking and climbing, so mobility issues could make it difficult for someone in your group. I’d personally go in winter, when the snow makes the views even more majestic.

We saw the castle ruins and crossed the incredible suspension bridge, all in the rain. The area is beautiful, and the tram ride up was quick.
