You couldn't ask for a more convenient location, about 50 metres from the ski lift. The heated ski room, with direct outside access, was a real plus, and the spa was a nice place to unwind. Rooms were spotless, comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast had plenty of good-quality options each morning, and nights were quiet enough for a good sleep after skiing. The staff were consistently helpful and accommodating. I'd happily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Saalbach.

We were seven people at Das Kohlmais for our first stay, spending a week over New Year. Tom and his family made everything feel relaxing and special, with a warm atmosphere and impeccable service. The hotel is beautifully furnished and in a great location. Every dinner was incredible, with varied choices and delicious dishes, and the cocktails were interesting and beautifully made. We also enjoyed the drinks hotline at the pool. The Saalbach Hinterglemm area is stunning, and the lift system and piste area were varied, efficient and really impressive. We'll definitely return.

We spent a week here in February 2026 and enjoyed every minute. The spot is fantastic, really handy for the slopes. Our room was cozy, modern, clean, and well looked after. Breakfast was tasty, dinner was exceptional, and the staff were friendly and upbeat. The little outdoor pool and relaxation area were lovely too. Highly recommend :)

The pool was great, and that “emergency cocktail bar” phone beside it is a fun touch. The food and location were also very good. What let us down was reception: the young girl there couldn't answer simple questions about buses to hinterglemm, booking taxis, or dinner arrangements, and most of what she told us was wrong. She didn't even know the hotel offered packed breakfasts for guests leaving early. The dark-haired lady was much more helpful. We'd stay again, but wouldn't ask the young receptionist for information. I assume she's the owners' daughter, and perhaps they don't realize how poorly she's doing.

The food was the standout for us. The restaurant and chef were on another level, easily the best I've had in Austria, and I've stayed at quite a few hotels here. Since I have a milk allergy, they came up with something special and delicious for me every day. That care and creativity really impressed me. Hotel Das Kohlmais itself has a relaxed, welcoming feel, and being a smaller place made it feel personal and cozy. The staff were super friendly, the room comfortable, and we enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pools as well as the sauna area. It's right in the village and close to the underground garage, so getting around was easy.
