Altstadthotel Weisse Taube

The hotel was built in the 1300s, which is quite something. Breakfast was really good, even though I usually don’t like buffets. The staff were so friendly and spoke English very well. At breakfast I heard several languages, including Japanese. It’s also near plenty of things to see and do.

The room was incredibly hot, and the walls were covered in scuff marks. The bed wasn’t even positioned properly against the wall, and one bed had no outlet or nightstand beside it. Calling this a 4 star hotel feels generous. There are better options.

The location on a downtown side street was perfect. The room was cute and comfortable, and the space was used well, so it felt bigger than its square footage. The bed was great, but the pillows were terrible. Sleep was impossible without good earplugs because a mechanical hum ran for 10-30 seconds every couple of minutes. We later realized it was the elevator, and our room was the furthest one from it. The sound reverberated through the building. I wouldn’t stay there again because of that.

We booked a premium triple with a dividing curtain in December 2024. The Booking photos matched the website and looked great, but the room we got did not match what we expected from those photos. At 350€ per night, we felt ripped off. The hotel is below what I’d expect from a 4 star property, and I’ll be taking this up with Booking, though I suspect closing my account may be the only option. Travel can bring plenty of fraud and disappointment. Fortunately, our stays with individual proprietors were much better than those with corporate providers. A lesson for our next vacation.
