It’s a family-owned business in a central spot on the village’s Main Street, about a four-minute walk from either gondola. The rooms are older in style and simply furnished. Bathroom and shower are in the hallway.

We arrived at Tiroler Freiden on Christmas Eve for our honeymoon, and within half an hour I had an asthma attack. I hadn’t had one since I was five. The room smelled terrible, and the mould and dust triggered it. We had to find another lodge up the road, but the owner still charged us for the room. A terrible experience. I’d strongly recommend against staying here.

We had a fantastic week here. The cottage is easy to reach from the center, and parking is available on site. There’s also a ski boot dryer. Each morning the welcoming family puts out a simple breakfast with ham, cheese, sausage, yogurt and muesli, but no eggs. The two showers are shared by 12 people, yet I never had to wait, and they were spotless. The mattresses are very hard, and shoes aren’t allowed indoors. If you prefer a firm pillow, bring your own. A really good budget stay for a week of winter sports.
