The rooms are definitely showing their age: old carpet, a creaky floor, and a balcony door that makes it hard to move around at night without waking whoever you're sharing with. The bathrooms have been updated, and everything was very clean. What made the stay work so well for us was the beach and the people. The lovely lake beach is right across the road, with good loungers and lots of umbrellas. The staff and the whole management family were friendly and accommodating, and we didn't feel we were missing anything. Guesthouse guests get beach bags and towels, and can use the hotel's services. Drinks from the beach can be charged to the room, there's a changing room, and the hotel toilets are only a short walk away. Breakfast at Hotel Silvia is prepared with real care. The egg dishes were lovely, and there was plenty of everything else too. I don't mind waiting behind a few people for a cappuccino, especially since filter coffee is available in pots. One thing I wish more hotels would stop allowing is reserving sunbeds. It's the same here as almost everywhere else, so if you really want a particular place, you'd better get up early. It helps to be clear about what matters to you before booking.

For the price, this is a great deal. The guesthouse is basic and the rooms are small, but it's clean, has a balcony, and the bathroom is new. Breakfast at Hotel Silvia was very good, and hotel guests can use the beach too.

I've been here 40 times, and I still think it's fantastic. The lake is the warmest, and there are lots of cycling routes, including the Drava Cycle Path. Kids have a great time here, and you can take a round trip on the boat "Magdalena." J.R.
