DAS VIER Sport,- und Wellnesshotel

I really enjoyed my winter stay and hope to see you again next time. The room service, facilities and food were all fabulous. I did have one issue on arrival: the receptionist that day seemed a bit impatient with me and gave me incorrect information about the wellness area's dress rules.

There isn’t much else to do here, since the hotel is at the end of the valley, but it’s a good spot for skiing and hiking. The breakfast buffet is nice, and half board includes a very good multi-course dinner. After Eastern, almost all the other restaurants in the area are closed, so half board is close to essential. For skiers, the hotel is right by the cable car. Just be aware it doesn’t go to the glacier, but to a smaller, pleasant ski resort. From there you can ski down to the base of the glacier ski resort. There are two sauna and steam room areas, neither especially big or fancy, but both good.

The room was a letdown. It felt old and used, and the bed mattress was worn out and should have been replaced long ago. The ground floor, by contrast, looked lovely, especially the entrance, restaurant and bar. The welcome from reception was warm and personal. There are some nice saunas in the spa, including a little hamam with green decor, but the indoor pool and outdoor Whirlpool were too cold for us. Even 30 degrees in the Whirlpool felt too cold. Most of the spa is an adult area, but we were uncomfortable with people walking around completely naked, leaving their genitals uncovered and sometimes deliberately showing them. It also made us question the hygiene. I’d have preferred basic rules requiring a towel over the lower body while walking around. The bar was a highlight, with a really good bartender making excellent drinks. The restaurant aimed for a classy feel, but the service, food and wine didn’t deliver. The suggested open wines were expensive and poor, with a flat, almost sour taste. The buffet food was good, but the main course disappointed. The chef may have been going for a signature dish, but the vanillin sauce overwhelmed the meat's taste. If skiing and being close to the cable car up the mountain are your priorities, this hotel could be a good fit. For us, it was an OK experience.

The mountains are right on the doorstep, which was the best part of our outdoor holiday. Staff were helpful and very friendly, and our room was nice and well looked after. The food and spa areas were okay, though neither was great. A great location for getting outdoors.
