I’d still call it a wonderful hotel, mainly because the food was so good and the service was very good. Breakfast especially stood out, with a five-star buffet, lovely dark cutlery and plates, and staff who were quick to respond. There was a lot of care and personal attention in every meal. The room was spacious and generally good, though a little dark. The coffee machine came without any complimentary pods, which was frustrating when I got up at 4:30 looking forward to caffeine. The shower overflowed until I managed to clear the blockage myself, with a bit of improvised effort, to get the hair out. A minibar would have been nice, though I could have done without one if the coffee machine had at least been usable. Four out of five.

The rooms are beautifully designed by the family who owns the hotel, and ours was very clean. Our two-bedroom suite had a steam shower, a beautiful bathtub, a large terrace facing the iconic mountain and a decorative fireplace that wasn't for actual use. The photography on the walls and the different lighting in every corner made it feel carefully put together. It was also quiet enough for a good night's sleep. Nespresso machines were in the rooms. We had the suite upgrade, so from the balcony or terrace we could take in spectacular mountain views and undisturbed nature. The hotel itself has recently been renovated in a four-star design boutique style, and it’s family run with impeccable service. Don’t trust some of the odd photos on TripAdvisor. Food was a major highlight, from a generous breakfast where you could ask for anything to dinner. The friendly staff, dressed in traditional Austrian costume, accommodated dietary requirements. Dinner offered vegetarian, meat or fish dishes, with a five-course meal. Even during the week the restaurant was full every night, so book ahead. I’d recommend coming for dinner even if you’re not staying at the hotel. For a special meal, we were advised to book “the hut” for a birthday during our stay. It seats around 8-10 people in the restaurant garden, around an open BBQ, with blankets and a round table. We had BBQ steaks, pork ribs and plenty of appetizers, served in designer birch beer glasses and steel “couldron style” bowls. A cosy, unique experience for a couple or a group. We brought Black Forest skis for the Ski and Show Ski event at Pitztal Glacier. The lifts for skiing in October were less than a five-minute drive away, and during peak season there’s also a ski lift three minutes’ walk from the hotel. The hotel is skier friendly, and the staff are happy to help with equipment, ski passes and finding the slopes. The town’s Apres Ski scene was nice too, with plenty of bars and clubs. Dominic at the hotel mixes excellent Gin and Tonic and Rum cocktails. Families are catered for with a playground on the grounds and kids’ meals. The hotel connects to its five-star sister hotel by an underground passage, and walking between them in dressing gowns or bathrobes is encouraged. There’s a lovely, well-designed spa at the hotel with a sauna and steam room. For an extra 20 Euro, guests can get a day pass to the sister hotel’s much larger, modern spa, with several kinds of crystal steam rooms and saunas, plus an indoor and outdoor heated infinity pool. The spa is worth visiting even if you’re not staying at the hotel. The masseuses are very good and reasonably priced, but book well ahead, since lots of people want a treatment after skiing. A very impressive place that shouldn’t be missed.

Such a good place to unwind. Every staff member was extremely kind and helpful, and I’d wish a stay here for anyone. Excellent hotel.

We had a great time skiing here. It’s a whole two-minute walk to the gondola, so Americans might want to bring a Segway :] My old teacher used to say that when something’s good, there isn’t much to say, and I can’t say much more.

Hotel Mandarfner Hof felt just the right size for us. It had everything we needed, from a varied, generous breakfast to tasty food and a good choice of drinks, while still keeping a cosy, intimate atmosphere. Getting to the ski area was easy thanks to the ideal location, which made the holiday relaxed and uncomplicated. The whole team was warm, attentive and friendly, and we felt welcome throughout. The hotel was clean everywhere, and we enjoyed the food every day. We had a lovely stay and would gladly come back.
