Riffelsee is right across the road, the glacier is about five minutes away by car or frequent bus, and Hochzeiger is an easy half-hour drive. The Pitztal ski areas are small by Austrian standards, but really good. There’s plenty else close by too, from hiking and cross-country skiing to snowshoeing and curling. The hotel itself is a little gem in a gorgeous part of the world. The rooms are lovely, the staff attentive and professional, and both the sauna and pool are excellent. The food was way beyond what I expected in such a remote corner of the Alps, more like a very good big-city restaurant. Dinner choices were presented at breakfast, usually a vegetarian option and two meat options, each four courses if I remember right. Two nights were gala dinners with six or seven small courses, all fantastic. Dishes like duck tartare and orange sorbet with Aperol foam were made in-house. Breakfast was a great buffet, and the huge 3-5 afternoon buffet was perfect after skiing. One afternoon, the whole valley lost power for scheduled maintenance. The hotel handled it beautifully: the buffet went ahead by candlelight, and the bar and cafe stayed open with music from a Bluetooth speaker. What could have been a drag turned into a magical afternoon, though my picture doesn’t do it justice. They also arranged a free bus to the Christmas market in Seefeld that day. I loved the place and can’t wait to return.

The rooms were spacious and beautiful, the pool had a great view, and the staff were friendly. I was traveling through the Alps with friends and wanted to treat myself to a nice hotel, so I did expect a bit more. It was okay, but for me it was a 4 out of 5. A few things let me down. The sauna floor had towels and hair on it and didn’t feel very clean. Dinner moved slowly: I’d had four of the six courses over 1 hour 45 minutes, which felt especially long on my own. I was tired, so I skipped the last two courses at 8:45 pm. Breakfast starts at 7 am, which is handy for hiking, but staff didn’t arrive until 7:30, so I couldn’t order scrambled eggs. I raised the timing and breakfast issues directly with the hotel, but didn’t manage to resolve them.

The area was quiet, and I really enjoyed feeling alone on most of the hikes. Many nearby routes are challenging, for intermediate or expert hikers, with alpine experience or very good fitness needed. Most have at least 600-700 m of elevation difference, and some are steep, rocky and uneven enough to require sure footing. Easier hikes can be found along the length of the valley. We visited in summer and had a Pitztal card included, which covered all gondolas and public transport as well as entry to some special places. The hotel is near the end of the valley, close to the Rifflseebahn and a 10-15 minute walk from the Gletscherbahn. Bring Euros for the Alms in Tyrol, since they don’t accept credit cards. We stayed in one of the newer Wildspitze rooms, the Wild Style Studio. It felt modern and chic, but also practical and comfortable, so we felt at home straight away. The downside was the view over a small employee parking lot and a large garbage dumpster. We kept the curtains and windows closed, and it didn’t bother us. Food and wine were generally excellent. Breakfast could have had more variety or creativity in the made-to-order menu, and lunch was a small-appetite buffet with two soups, a small selection of salad vegetables and daily cakes. Dinner stood out for its unusual, delicious vegetarian dishes, which went beyond what I’ve had at most hotels. The service staff were all excellent, friendly and professional. The spa was amazing, one of the best we’ve seen in a hotel. We wished there were an adults-only pool or jacuzzi, though. Both pools were overflowing with kids, and the water felt too cold for a relaxing swim. Roman gave an excellent massage, but the room is right beside the pool, so we heard screaming kids the whole time. The few things that fell short wouldn’t stop us staying at Wildspitze again. It’s family-run, and you can feel the family’s dedication and passion for giving guests a superb experience. For us, it’s definitely a 10/10.

The view south over the mountains from our clean, tidy room was just amazing. It was our first stay, but definitely not our last. We’ll be back next year, and highly recommend the place. From check-in onward, everything was wonderful. The receptionist made arrival easy and then gave us a quick tour. Everyone on staff was welcoming, warm-hearted and friendly. Restaurant service was superb, with every little detail taken care of, and the food was just as amazing as the rest of the hotel. Thanks for such a great stay!

What a fantastic stay. The hotel is right by the ski resort, and the glacier is only a 2-minute drive away. Food was amazing, with the so-called 3/4 board: breakfast, dinner and an afternoon buffet after skiing. The wellness area is spacious, with lovely views and great saunas. The only annoying part was German tourists being too loud in the relaxation rooms. We’ve never visited a better hotel in Austria. It’s family-owned, with a cozy, homey feel, and the care is superb. The staff are polite, nice and attentive.
