Chalet Alm Planai

The views are overwhelming at any time of day, even in a rainstorm. The house itself is a fabulous mountain home, beautifully styled and superbly built. My family and I were completely won over by the design, especially the three-sided glass fireplace and its incomparable views. There are so many outdoor activities and dining options in the area all year round. Inside, there’s a sauna, ski room, fireplace, very well equipped kitchen, several TVs, a Weber BBQ, and windows with insect screens. It was a total delight to stay here. Most of all, our hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful. This is my new favorite place in Austria.

The walks nearby suit all ages, from short and refreshing to properly challenging. You can get to the Planai gondola's mid-station or Hopsiland at the top station easily on foot, and trails through the woods and fields lead to alpine pastures, mountain stations, and viewpoints, whether you fancy a 20-minute walk or a 5-7-hour hike. There’s always something to see along the way. The area has even more to explore, from the Dachstein glacier and toboggan runs to cultural attractions and all kinds of restaurants. Maps is full of places to visit. The first thing that hit us was the panorama. We got out of the car in the chalet garage, right by the charging station, turned onto the street, and just stood there saying, "Wow, this is something!" It took our breath away. The house is beautiful, spacious, and very stylish, with high quality furnishings and thoughtful craftsmanship. It sleeps 10 comfortably, with five large double bedrooms, plus a living room, terrace, playroom/living room, large dining room, an exceptional bay window room, ski storage, and a sauna with shower/bath and relaxation room. Everything feels a little bigger, more lavish, and more stylish than you'd expect in a holiday home, from the rooms and tables to the view, fireplace, and woodwork details. We were there in July, but it seems like it would be lovely in any season. At about 1100 meters on a hillside, summer felt warm but comfortable, and on unsettled days we could spend hours by the fireplace, looking out through the bay window. The large sun terrace faces the Dachstein with an unobstructed view, and there's also an enclosed terrace at the back with a Weber grill. The windows are a real plus: they're large, high quality, and have built-in mosquito nets. Nothing was fluttering around at night, apart from some bats that the kids thought were really cool, and we could enjoy the cool summer air. The owner goes out of their way to make guests comfortable and welcome, and Beate deserves praise for that. All the little details together make this a real hidden gem. Not a single point deducted. Thanks for a wonderful stay, and yes, we'll be back!
