It’s a nice hotel, and you can tell a lot of money went into it at some point. The fitness room has expensive, good training equipment, there’s a pleasant reading room, and a huge playroom for children. But it feels like those investments were made a few years ago, and since then some things have gradually gone into disrepair. Little details at breakfast, like foreign cups mixed in with the regular ones, add to that impression. The dinner buffets are lovely, but the place can feel unprofessional at times. It isn’t bad, just a bit odd.

We loved our stay and really didn’t want to leave. The beds and rooms were incredibly comfortable, and the large private balcony looked out over a breathtaking mountain view. The spa, included for free, felt like something from a 5+ resort. The staff were wonderful. Don’t miss the included breakfast buffet, with expensive cheeses, eggs, fresh fruit, and homemade yogurt.

Since the new owner took over, the service seems to have gone downhill. By 9:00 a.m. the breakfast buffet is empty, and it’s the same every day, even the cold cuts. The staff don’t seem qualified and lack an eye for detail. Dinner is okay, but they often run out of food. I suspect the chef doesn’t know how much to prepare. The new owner doesn’t give the impression of understanding hotel operations. Hopefully things can only improve.

We had a wonderful holiday and didn’t run into any of the problems mentioned in many reviews. The hotel and rooms were clean and well maintained, and the pool and sauna were nicely pre-heated. The food was excellent and varied even on days when there weren’t many guests, and the staff were very friendly. The hotel is right by the ski bus stop. It takes five minutes to reach the Salober lift, and about 30 minutes to Mellau or Schoppenau.
