The pool is really fun and nice. It's a long way from town, though, which some people may actually prefer.

The snow and skiing were a lovely bonus for our family stay at Hotel AlpenSchlössl and Landhaus Ager. We had an amazing time, enjoyed the warm hospitality and excellent service, and would happily come back. Thanks, Hotel AlpenSchlössl and Landhaus Ager, for making it so memorable!

We spent a week here for skiing at the Wilder Kaiser Brixental SkiWelt and would happily recommend Hotel Alpenschlössl for that sort of trip. Front desk staff were very helpful, the rooms were just big enough and impeccably clean, and the hotel worked well with our kids. Apart from the children's meals it didn't offer much specifically for them, but nobody minded when they got annoyingly loud. The food was plentiful and good, and we looked forward to the afternoon snack after skiing. If coconut cake is out, take as many pieces to your room as your conscience allows. I heard it was outstanding, but came down too late to try it. The setting was a real plus: far enough outside Söll to feel like countryside, but the free shuttle to town and the ski area ran morning and afternoon and was very convenient. The wellness area was surprisingly modern and sleek for a small, classically decorated hotel, with a great pool, sauna, steam rooms and relaxation area. I also had a thoroughly relaxing, reasonably priced massage from the on-site masseuse. Dinner service could be chaotic. It wasn't always clear who our server was or who to ask about drinks or the next course. The food had a broad selection and was plentiful, but the dishes were hit or miss. Some were delicious, others less so. Meals were enjoyable, though not the star of the stay, and this may not suit someone after a culinary adventure. I especially liked the regional dishes and would have welcomed more of them. The children's menu leaned heavily on fried food like fries, schnitzel, chicken nuggets and mozzarella sticks. The kids were fine with it, but by the end of the week I felt bad feeding them that, and a vegetable of the day would have helped. I may have missed the message among all the pre-trip marketing, but there's a free transfer from the local train stations if you book 72 hours ahead. That should have been clearer. I missed the cutoff and paid €35 for a 15-minute cab ride. And despite all the talk of castle spirits, nothing haunted me. Maybe they were out night sledding? 👻 It was a great experience and good value. I'm thinking of returning next year if the ski conditions allow.

We stayed over New Year and got a gala dinner, fireworks and a lively seven-piece band. The hotel has about 45 rooms, and manages to feel lively without losing its cosy atmosphere. The dining room, spa and ski room are all a short walk from the bedrooms, which is much easier than trekking around a large hotel in a dressing gown. Its alpine chalet setting is idyllic, around a five-minute drive from Söll, with fabulous valley views. Our balcony looked out beautifully too. The rooms were comfortable, clean, well equipped and a good size, with a quaint, slightly old-fashioned style that felt homely. There's plenty of free parking if you're driving. Friendly, helpful staff looked after us, though service could be slow at times and occasionally needed a reminder. We found that forgivable in the lovely chalet atmosphere. The bar and restaurant are charming, with an open fire. Meals were good, often very good, and sometimes deserved to be called gourmet. There were occasional shortcuts, like frozen vegetables, but generally the food was varied, hearty and wholesome Austrian fare that we looked forward to. The wine list was good quality and well priced. A small buffet for returning skiers is available daily until 17:00, which is annoying if you catch the last bus and arrive five minutes too late. The spa and pool are nice, with three saunas, a steam room and a pleasant relaxation area offering complimentary juice or tea. You can also step outside to cool down after the sauna. Söll is part of the 200km SkiWelt area and fantastic for skiing. The hotel is about a 15-minute bus ride from the gondola. Buses stop right outside every 30 minutes, run reliably, and it's the first and last stop, so getting a seat is generally easy. The 16:50 last bus back does cut short après-ski, and taxis cost over €20. I'd strongly recommend Alpineschloss if you're after a reasonably priced, quaint and relaxing alpine stay, with honest Austrian food and convenient bus access to the slopes. If you want ultra-modern luxury, high-end dining and a central après-ski spot, you'll need to look elsewhere and likely pay a lot more.
