Studio St. Gilgen

There’s plenty to do and see nearby for a few days away as a couple, and this was a lovely place to stay and eat. The staff were very friendly and the food was amazing. My only gripe was that the rooms don't have AC. Still, the building was set up for good ventilation, and the breeze off the lake kept things mostly comfortable.

I had a bad experience. They told me rudely that they were cancelling my reservation and didn't even offer compensation. Think three times before booking.

We had a balcony room overlooking the town, and it was spacious, with a great walk-in shower. The rooms and restaurant were decorated beautifully, modern and clean, and the owners clearly have lovely taste. The hotel sits right in the center of this quaint Austrian village, which made it a great base for exploring the area. Breakfast was a ten, with fresh food and pretty much anything you could want. We also had dinner at the restaurant twice, and both meals were delicious. The käse spaetztl, or cheese noodles, is one of my favorite dishes, and it was the best I’ve had in Europe. The owners were very friendly. We loved our stay.

We went back to the restaurant for a second night in St Gilgen, hoping the waitress had just been having an off evening when we first visited. A different waitress greeted us this time, then the male manager, but the staff still came across as unfriendly and rude. We left pretty quickly. Such a shame, since the location is perfect and the food is okay.
