For the price, our stay at Feuerberg Resort was disappointing. The room ceiling had a carpet hanging from it, which looked odd and unattractive. Dinner tasted good at first, but later that night it caused severe heartburn and I ended up vomiting. At breakfast, we got up briefly to get more food. Before we came back, the staff had cleared our table setting, including the cutlery, napkins and even the sugar. Service also wasn’t always as courteous as expected, especially when we asked which wine would go with the fish. Some of the other guests came across as arrogant and self-important, which affected the atmosphere. Although the hotel website is in English, the place seems to cater almost entirely to German speakers. Signs, written information and even the hotel map were only in German, so non-German speakers have to guess their way around. Many staff members struggled with English and could get impatient or frustrated.

We had an amazing week here with the family, and I wish I could give it six stars. The mountain views are breathtaking, and the wellness facilities are top-notch. There’s even an infinity pool above the clouds.

For what we paid, the stay at the Alpine Hut Village was a let-down. Compared with other Austrian hotels we stayed at, which cost a little less and were much better for comfort and service, this fell short. We expected basic things like reliable Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a more inclusive experience. The public facilities were very good: the pools and saunas were excellent, and the food was consistently great. A few staff members were genuinely warm and welcoming. Management seemed to care when we raised our concerns and tried to help, but couldn’t offer practical solutions. The rooms, though, were dated and needed renovation. Ours wasn’t properly clean, and the mattresses in the kids’ room were old and lumpy. Staff promptly replaced them with new ones and cleaned the room, which we appreciated, but at this price we expected better from the start. There’s no air conditioning in the rooms or most areas of the hotel, and the website doesn’t disclose that. The windows don’t have insect screens, so opening them for much-needed fresh air in August means letting in bees and mosquitoes. Wi-Fi was weak and unreliable, and often cut out. Even the hidden “VIP” network offered by staff didn’t help. Internet may not be the main thing on vacation, but the connection was so poor that planning activities became almost impossible; even Google Maps often wouldn’t load. When we raised it with the general manager, he only said, “I understand that Wi-Fi is something that is important for you...” and offered no solution. The website is in English, but the hotel caters almost entirely to German-speaking guests. Most signs, written materials and even the hotel map were only in German, leaving non-German speakers to guess their way around. Many staff members also struggled with English and could become impatient or frustrated.

What a lovely spot up at the top! The road gets steep and snowy in winter, so make sure you have good winter tires. Once there, the clean, comfortable facilities, beautiful views, and fantastic spa and sauna make for a wonderful stay. The staff are incredibly polite and friendly, and the dinner desserts are especially amazing. We’ll come back.

We loved our three nights at Feuerberg in mid-October as part of our honeymoon. We’re a newly married American couple, and they had a few thoughtful treats ready for us. The resort met or exceeded our expectations, and we’d definitely recommend it for a honeymoon. The grounds were lovely, with spectacular views, and the clean, modern room and facilities were beautiful. The huge complex felt a bit maze-like at first, but after a couple of days we could get around easily. There were lots of activities and events, with a strong focus on relaxation and mindfulness. Breakfast and dinner were included, with plenty of choices. We liked having the same table for every meal and the same dinner waiter each evening. Shoutout to Attila, our awesome waiter! The mealtime staff checked on us constantly to make sure everything was perfect. The saunas and pools were wonderful too. A few things to know: it’s definitely family-friendly, with lots of children around, though there are areas of the spa where you can get away from them. Coffee and tea outside breakfast and dinner cost a bit much at 4-6 EUR each. Wellness services and events filled up quickly, and some needed to be booked or registered for at least a day ahead. We couldn’t speak or read German, but still felt well accommodated. All the staff and many guests we talked to spoke excellent English. At events, instructors sometimes spoke to the class in German, but once they knew we were American they tried to accommodate us. Much of the literature, including the facility map, daily newsletter and menus, as well as many signs, was in German. We managed with our phones or by asking staff to translate, but having a few paper documents in English would be our one recommendation. We’d visit again. A 5/5 stay, and a big thank you to the staff for all their dedication and care.
